That poor moonkin trying to please Nithogg in Stormheim. I like to pretend not doing the quest prevents the event from ever happening. :disappointed_relieved:

The moonkin and nithogg didnā€™t make me sad. It made me angry when it happened.

I was ā€œI hope we get to kill that dirty filthy monster in a quest down the road!ā€

This one takes the title for me too. I even went so far as to rename my red whelpling pet: rheas child.

And of course, Rheas egg trinket will stay with my toon forever.

The quest where Kingslayer Orkus dies is the saddestā€¦ RIP Orkus! :sob: you will always be a hero to the Horde!

Bridenbrad isnā€™t sad: he bravely finished his race and found peace. We can all only hope we are afforded the same

I forget the name but some farmer in the stormsong area in BFA that looses his little boy and wife to quillboars and then asks for your help in fending them off. The quest line ends with him at the grave siteā€¦ broke my heart  and really made me wish i could go genocidal on those quillbacks.

This quest was good.

What about Uuna? That poor little girl.

Bridenbrad, Runas, little Pamela Redpath***, that one in Krasarang Wilds with Sunwalker Dezco and his pregnant wife ā€“ there are quite a few that make you cry.

***just this moment realized that since Classic is now live, I should be able to do the full original Pamela questline!

No one talking about poor mankirks wife. His elusive elusive wife

Since no one brought it up, the quest where you try to save civilians during the burning of Teldrassil, which is made worse by the fact that youā€™re shown an obvious counter and timer, that makes it plaintively clear that - no matter what you do - most of these people are going to die in one of the most horrible ways possible.

And then on top of that, the priestessesā€™ sacrifice to keep the portals open, in the hopes that just one more person might come running through the door.

ā€œThe Future of the Rockpoolā€ has long been my personal favorite quest to come out of cataclysm. (Blasted Lands quest to drag a crate of baby murlocs through a naga massacre of their tribe, setting them adrift on the ocean)

Not to me. Runas was a good quest line, well done but the saddest (to me) was Kyle the Frenzied, a low level horde quest in Mulgore.

It was based off a last wish of a dying child. His voice is immortalised in Ahab Wheathoof, a tauren that asks you to bring his dog Kyle back to him.

I love that quest.

" * Ahab was created by Tigole at the behest of Ezra Chatterton ~https://wow.gamepedia.com/Ezra_Chatterton who toured Blizzardā€™s offices with the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

  • Despite his apparent advanced age, the voice of Ahab is actually that of Ezra himself."

Just when I thought I was over all the sad quests, Drustvar throws Lucille Waycrestā€™s wedding at me.

I know WoD wasnā€™t remembered very well, and for good reason: I still think itā€™s the worst expansion the game has ever had.

However, I got hit really hard in the feels with Gaā€™narā€™s sacrifice. I think what really did it for me was the absolutely stunning music with the cinematic. In fact, I think WoD had absolutely breathtaking end zone cinematics that did sort of carry into Legion, but only Yseraā€™s really stands out to me.

But yeah, I renamed one of my wolf pups Ganar in honor of his sacrifice.

The story of Lin and Suna Silentstrike, where we first lose Lin to the yaungol, and then lose Suna to her own desire for revenge. Left me feeling utterly helpless.

At least Runas was more or less at peace with his fate at the end (though I still wonā€™t forgive Blizzard for not giving me a chance to find him and take him to Suramar).

The ones with the children are just sob bait for folks who like kids.

The one in Stormsong where the kid tricks you into gathering up animals so she can eat them is the saddest, cause you canā€™t punish the kid for it.

WoD had a lot of really good stories in it, horde side anyway. I barely played alliance that expac.

If it had just had more content, I think WoD could have become one of the most memorable expacs ever.

Dezcoā€™s questline in MoP, especially once you read the short story and put it in context with what happened in 5.4. He truly lost everything.

The quick summary is that his wife has a vision that leads her to Krassarang Wilds, so he accompanies her there. When you arrive on the scene, his wife is quite pregnant and has a fever. You try to help Dezco find a legendary spring of healing for his wife. Ultimately, she goes into labor and gives birth to twins, but dies shortly after. You can even see Dezco frantically casting Flash of Light or something on her to try and save her.

In the comic, Chi-Ji basically selects one of Dezcoā€™s children to be a member of the Golden Lotus and a guardian of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Dezcoā€™s escorting a group across the vale and is ambushed by Mogu. One of his children dies in the ambush, but Chi-Ji saves the other oneā€™s life. So, Dezco ultimately goes along with Chi-Jiā€™s decision.

Obviously, Garroshā€™s actions ruin the vale, and itā€™s not really clear from here what happens with Dezcoā€™s child.
