1.) does the shield effect scale with plus healing, or spell power?
2.) from the tool tip, it’s clear that the increased critical effect chance from FOL only exists for six seconds AFTER the incoming damage which procced the shield. But am I correct in reading that the shield itself only lasts for six seconds, regardless of whether 500 damage has been done?
3.) I’m sure that the actual 30 sec buff of sacred shield is purgable/ dispellable. But what about the shield itself, when it procs?
3.)
So what is bothering me is that it looks like when the shield pops to when the damage is absorbed fully dispels the crit healing buff with it so that you no longer get the crit healing. This means that realistically every 6 seconds you get to take advantage of the crit increase for about 1-2 seconds until a single hit from a mob takes the shield away. So typically you can maybe get off 1-2 casts of flash of light and take advantage of the buff, but more than likely 0 uses as the bubble pops almost instantly with any damage going on the tank.
Yes, that’s how it works. It is quite lame. So basically every six seconds it can absorb that damage, if that damage is absorbed the 6 sec buff is gone and with it the critical chance increase. Since the damage is relatively low, it means in dungeon runs it is instantly popped almost all the time. So you can sometimes just get lucky spam casting FoL and having it sync up with the buff generating the same time the heal lands and such.
Historically absorbs do not scale with spellpower, except where otherwise specified. An example of this is WotLK adding Spell Power scaling to PWS via Disc talents. Wowhead currently does not list a SP modifier, so I’m pretty certain SS is the same, it’s a flat absorb.
But as a Horde main, yes I have purged paladins until the shield falls off, sometimes on the first try.
just checked tonight’s logs:
Sacred Shield tooltip says 120 (53 spell power rn as tank) and our I was absorbing 200 damage per 6 seconds from our hpal during thermaplug
Damn I wish I knew why 1.10 patch notes say otherwise and my logs are absorbing more than 394 on a 0/31/0 holy priest and more than 453 (394 *1.15) on a 31/0/0 disc priest.
Equally surprising that my dragonbreath chili scales with SP despite no wowhead spell mod!!
It’s not really a good shield compared to PW:S, but it does help on fights like Thermaplug. I was the OT for that fight and switched to SS to help the healing out a bit. We ended up not beating it, but swapping to SS made the fight a lot smoother and helped the healers out.
Note, we only had 1 ranged DPS so the ret paladin was helping too which was kind of a big DPS loss.
