Sacred Shield an absolute joke

Well guys blizzard did it they trolled the Paladin community harder than anyone could fathom.

I thought sacred shield was going to be a passive effect but then I come to find that you have to cast it every 30 seconds for a huge chunk of mana… And on top of everything… 80 dmg shield down from the 500 advertised? I mean I expected somewhat of a nerf but this…?

That about does it for us boys Ret is forever trashed we will never be the sustaining holy warrior hard to kill pvp spec we have always dreamed of since we were 0 years old. We will be oom and kited not even able to cast freedom while the troll hunter /rofl spams us while he kites and the Tauren shaman humps our dead bodies indefinitely and uses his pvp epic totem to

Thanks for keeping the ret meme alive and well blizzard

Good on them! Ret has always been “babies first melee,” no reason to change it now!

Retail is that way —>

You have “mana” in classic.

the added crit and healing power seems nice tho. Don’t be sad

its good for what it is.

was blazing through dungeons with my mana rune while my healer put sacred shield on me

hpals will like it at 40 too. be happy!

We don’t have mana to heal

Illumination + Int Gear = Free Crit Heals

This was never going to be a rune used by ret, this rune only makes sense for holy paladins, due to its high mana cost and the fact that there are far more important runes for both Ret and Prot. The pure panic by some of the Horde around this rune was always silly.

On the positive side so far all the runes given to holy seem to keep with their identity of classic holy paladins being mostly single target, which used small but efficient heals.

For Ret, you will likely want to look at the Runes for Art of War and Enlightened Judgements especially if you are on a PvP server, as this gives you far more range, allowing you be kited a little less easily.

Its going to be strong as Hpala in later phases

Hey look, my “nerf paladins” comments worked!

I mean, i assume the shield scales with spellpower, so when ret get sheath of light, it’ll make the shield effectively scale with attack power, so it won’t be half as bad as people make it out, and being able to slap a quick flash to hot yourself up a bit won’t be that bad either

The problem with using it as ret is it will take lots of mana to cast. The cost to a holy paladin will be offset though with 5/5 inspiration by the improved crit chance of Flash of Light, this will reduce the cost of keeping it up for Holy, ret will not get this so they would likely spend more to cast the spell then it saves them.

Lastly, the biggest reason Ret probably won’t want to use it is Exorcism will likely be a big part of Ret’s damage likely going forward, and losing access to Art of War would be significant compared to gaining a small damage shield, and a increased chance to crit on a flash of light. So could they use it, yes, but it would require a significant trade off and likely not worth it, unless they are doing a fair bit of healing, and where giving up DPS makes sense.

if its anything like wrath SS then idk why you are complaining about it which im sure it is which is OP

Eh, I wouldn’t be so sure. Exorcism alone doesn’t justify art of war I don’t think, and exoricsm is also equally mana intensive.

The problem is that currenlty we don’t really have any AP gear with int on it, but that WILL change going forward, paladin ranking gear, and tier sets (after 1st) come with spellpower, strength, int and stam, the four main stats paladins want.

500 every 6 seconds would have made you god-mode in phase 2.

Sacred Shield was a copy and paste ability so it obviously wasn’t going to be a passive. You could also tell from the datamined tooltip.
