Ryzen 5, 7 which "G" should I get for GPUless WOW. (For now)

Happy to help when I can

The modular laptop (Framework) is one that Linus covered a few weeks ago, and while it’s pretty interesting, it’s not a gaming laptop. They are Intel systems that use their integrated graphics and at this time, don’t have dedicated GPUs that I can see. They do support Thunderbolt 4, so eGPUs are possible, but that still puts you in the “where the heck are all the GPUs??” camp. And extra bulk and diminishing returns.

One thing to be aware of, is that a spec sheet isn’t always representative of performance. Depending on the manufacturer’s power configuration, the hardware may perform better or worse than other implementations of the same part.

You’ll want to look up specific reviews of each individual model on youtube or written reviews to determine power levels and actual performance levels. And of course other features.

Thanks will consider all of this. Take care.

Something like this might be good, but double check the reviews.

This is the G5 GD, which has an RTX 3050 with 75w graphics power. According to the internet, the 3050 max TDP is 80, which makes this pretty close to the limit.

Gigabyte is one of the few manufacturers to actually list the TDPs of their laptop GPUs.

Where I am currently I can’t find the 11400h but I found this one

Gigabyte Aorus G5 MD-51S1123SH Intel Core i5-11400H/8gbx2/512GB SSD/Rtx 3050Ti/Win10 | Lazada PH

Works out to about 1300USD lol. This sort of thing is always overpriced here sigh.

Dang that sucks.

That one doesn’t even have the full GPU it has a TI lol.

Oh well  Putting a PC together is a lot more economical wise seemingly as the are still more expensive, but not nonsensenically priced like that.

The Ti is a better variant, so there’s that at least.

Just hate overpaying

I built a low power wow rig with the Ryzen 5 3400G. Using the recommended graphics settings in the user interface settings, I would get a bar scale/slider set to 3. For the most part it was ok. I went ahead and installed a low wattage video card and am able to play with the settings set to around 7 now. The card I installed is the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce GTX 1650 OC. It is Plenty good enough for me, but again I am not a min max type subscriber. My whole goal of my build was a low noise and low heat build. Everything in my build has a TDP of 65 watts or less. I am very happy and comfortable.

Onto another side topic; the computer tower. I use to be a fan of cooler master when they were built out of practicality. Lately though, I have been building my computer towers with BeQuiet! Products. I can not say enough about them. Very high quality, very quiet, and decent ventilation.

You need to be careful with the laptops for wow. I have 3. A asus, saber, and a acer. Of the 3 the saber is best graphics. The asus is good graphics. The Acer has so so graphics. The acer though does work the best on my lap. The other two need a table to be used. They burn my thighs. With this, I added a big SSD and more memory to the acer and it is a cool running champ now. Love it. It is a Acer Aspire A5-43. It doesn’t seam like much, but with a 1TB SSD and more memory, very doable. Very affordable!

So I typed all that and got side tracked and my apologies for such pointless post. So the reason I typed all that was I wanted to bring up that I would not care so much about the difference in the actual processor stuff, but more so the difference in the the visual graphics between the APU’s. I am curious as to if they are a tad better, maybe worse, or hopefully night and day better on the 5700G. Ok I was able to get it out.

Some quick performance data. I just built a PC last week and am getting 40-50 consistent FPS on 1440p with mid - high settings, targeted for performance. Looks great. if I go down to 1080p I get 60-70 average with the same settings. So, the 5700G is 100% playable at 1440p with decent settings still.

Ryzen 7 5700G
32gigs 3600 memory, CL16
Samsung 980PRO NVME

igpu is overclocked to 2350mhz at 1.250v, and for cpu only using PBO for overclock. RAM is XMP profile1

Hi there thanks for the notes  Don’t even need to OC and I lock my FPS at 60 with the 5600G I purchased. Works really nice. 1080P I linked all my settings.

Have had a few issues with riva tuner crashing a bit but not too bad will do more testing on it later in raids, etc.

Here’s my video:

Where are your settings linked? I’m curious. Also, what overlay are you using to display your fps and temps?

Hi there.

I put them in the description in the video. The overlay is MSI afterburning with Riva Tuner. One thing I will note is that wow became semi unstable sometimes when I ran the tuner / overlay which causes the video stop even if the game continues to run. This is apparently a noted software issue.

Thanks, I like the OSD.

Just a small follow up video. I get that tech has probably changed but my elation / performance for what I am doing has not which probably coincides with not updating a lot of content haha

Enjoy
