I recently learned that the wheel mount drops off Rustfeather. But it is a low-rate drop (Wowhead says 0.5%) and you can only kill Rustfeather for drops 1 time a day (on each character). The good news is you don’t have to do the Mechagon intro quests. Just go there (flying from Drustvar) and kill Rustfeather. Respawn time is 15min to 45min.
I’ve been killing Rustfeather for two weeks. The good news is that I have 37 characters to do kills. The bad news is that I still have to wait for respawns, so I spend 10 hours each day killing Rustfeather over and over. So far I’ve done 388 kills with no mount drop.
Has anyone gotten the mount drop from Rustfeather recently (in 2020)? How many kills did it take? Or how many kills have you done without getting the mount?
i do not farm the mont , is on line , kill rust father if i am close by and they r up
It dropped for me maybe 4 months ago on attempt #79. I actually looted the spider’s mount first on the 3rd try.

The Mecha-Done achievement is also a wheel mount. That achievement takes a long time to do. While working on that achievement, i also made an effort to kill Rustfeather every time i was there. Still have to see the Rustfeather mount, but did get my Mecha-Done mount.
So, if your RNG is bad, aiming for the Mecha-Done achievement might be quicker to get that model of mount.

Took me like 3-4 weeks doing it on a couple different toons.

I did maybe anout 4 months ago. Not sure how many kills it took but I didn’t specifically chain camp the jerk.
You may be better off finishing the meta tham you are camping Rustfeather.
I started doing it on 5 to 7 toons a day and just hit 303 for both. Too many rare spawns with low drop chances added this expac. If you try too much you get burnt out, but I guess waiting and watching something else like Netflix is the new form of content?

I tried on main only, and gave up. Got the meta achievement version instead. It’s shinier.
Also, I turned up their recently and there wasnt one person camping it which was a bit a shocker. probably because it was outside prime time hours and end of expansion stuff, though I still see lots of people camping the spider.

I got it a few months ago, was very casually farming that one though.
See it pretty often, seems common these days. Sounds like you’re a bit down on your luck right now.

I used to kill this mob religiously; every character, every day.
Now I’m just, “Oh, cool. He’s up.” (Nuke) “Whaddya know, still no mount.” (Shrug)
Do it that way and save yourself some frustration.
My only concern is that it’ll become one-shot-able like Houlon, and then it’ll truly become a miserable farming experience.

I’d rather put in the upfront time and just teleport there. If it takes me 40 years to get the mount I’ll have spent less time going there than flying each time.

Yeah that’s true but I have enough to just camp there. The problem is there’s never really any groups up for Rust, so waiting out each and every spawn is so tedious. I don’t even bother. I did it with most of the Mogu invasion rares (3/4 mounts from that invasion now) but it’s just… argh. There’s groups for those. Not Rust x.x

I got the Rustfeather mount a couple of weeks before I finished Mecha-Done achieve which was back in May I think? I’d have to check. Got the spider mount on the same week as well.
Not sure how many tries it took but was likely over 100 tries on each.
Update: I finally got the drop (the wheel mount). It took me 515 kill-and-loot tries.
That’s about 0.2% drop rate, a bit lower than the 0.5% in WoWhead. But that’s RNG for ye.

Got mine a few months ago I think. I wanna say it was between 50-100 attempts, spread on different characters- I wasn’t counting or hunting for it. I would only try Rustfeather on days where the daily was kill 3 rares, and I had stopped doing mechagon dailies on multiple alts a long while ago.
