Runes aren't fun

Getting most of these runes, aren’t fun by any description, especially the group ones. Vanilla is full of extra steps, extra work, so blizzard N+1 the stupid stuff that no one liked?

I wanted to play SoD, I liked the idea of new class features, spells, new playstyles from newer versions of the game. 20 man MC sounds awesome, but I don’t think I’m going to bother getting all these runes. I could go play a different version of the game that doesn’t have all these extra steps.

Thanks Blizzard, I hope you at least learned from this.

The instant gratification line for Retail is over there →

You’ll be happy to know it’s an exceedingly short wait.

My views on runes is I never expected the classic playerbase to so eagerly want retail or later expansion abilities, which is all 80% of the runes are.

Might have meant something if I was only a SoD Player, bro.

How about you go check out that “new” Era Fresh server… I’m sure all 800 people would be glad to have you.

Man, when I was a teenager I was playing some super unpopulated online rpgs that had like 25 players on a busy day. You say 800 like that’s a bad thing.

nah im good but, id argue there isnt a more instant gratification version of wow than sod rn.

the rune system is a chore, there’s nothing difficult about it.

you see rune, you get rune, you powerful… what’s more instant gratification than the rune system lol. What about the amounts of gold they’re shoving down your throats, raid gear at 25,40,50,60? lol get real. There isnt an easier version of wow out there rn.

Even pvp wise, its as casual as it comes.

we don’t :expressionless: people who like runes are retail players, hence why most can’t even be bothered to do any work to earn them

Compared to what the norm is now and what it’s built around? Yes… yes it is.

That argument is a bit like… “back when I was a teenager, I played Brood War over a 56k modem” (which is true, and was a very exciting upgrade from the 28.8k) “So saying someone only has 500kb internet is like saying its a bad thing.”

Compared to Era? Yeh… it’s a seasonal server so everything is accelerated compared to such.

Compared to Retail? Absolutely not. They even dumped the time gating so people could complete the first patch in a day or days… not weeks.

Also… just want to point out, SoD launched Nov 20, 2023. We’re about to be able to get to level 60…July 11, 2024.

I hate having to redo them on alts. Especially that dark rider or ley line one. You cant really find groups for them anymore so I don’t even bother. Ultimately leading to me not having a single alt this coming phase,. And this was supposed to be an alt friendly version of wow. Ironic how retail will be the alt friendly version of WoW

retail is barely even a “version of WoW” :expressionless: it’s more like an arcade game with WoW assets

Runes being things to go get is tedious. Class power behind random tasks isn’t my favorite. I’d like the quests to be more impactful separate from the rewards. The quests should be fun. The goal should be fun, regardless of reward. That’s not how developers think.

Further, runes are bad for organization of your character. Macroing your rune means if you swap that rune, you’ll have to swap the button. You could macro any given ability from those runes into one macro. This isn’t a great solution, but it works. If you don’t macro like that, the runes swap. The problem with that is, you can’t place passive abilities on your bars, so for instance if you have two slots four runes, one passive and one active for each slot, if you have one passive and one active on each rune, you can’t swap both runes and swap the active buttons on your bar, because then you can’t replace the now passive abilities. It is, again, tedious.

Runes just weren’t a fully fleshed out thought.

Its about the quality of players, not the quantity, right? Id rather play with more like minded people then then an over populated server where i literally know no one.

Its not an mmorpg if the tasks aren’t tedious. Leveling is tedious, professions are tedious, raiding is tedious, pvp is tedious.

Sorry, this is 2024 bizarro Blizzard. Fun = reward, task = not fun, activity = not fun.

Without a doubt compared to retail. where are you getting instant gratification from in retail? Seriously, I’m waiting. M+ is a grind, pvp is a grind, raiding is harder and way more time consuming. What are we even talking about here lol.

get 2 players same skill playing sod and retail, the guy playing sod is gonna be bis with way less effort WAY before the retail player.

If only we were talking about gear…
instead of abilities.

Does Retail even have trainers anymore? Haven’t seen a Shammy trainer in years.
My abilities are just thrown into my bars as I level
Talent resets are… “whenever and whereever”
Leveling is even faster than incursions and you get teleported pretty much everywhere, stop walking/running at level 10… or level 1 if you’re an alt…

There is zero journey from Level 1 to Endgame content in Retail. (Assuming you even wanted to level instead of buying a token.)

the journey in retail is at endgame.

youve basically implied that retail is a more casual game because trainers and the ability to respec on the fly? Have you seen a retail skill tree? Thank god they give you the ability to respec easily.

Leveling is literally what you make it in any version. at least in retail you have a choice. You act like all you can do is the rdf.

There is nothing wrong with SoD being the most casual version bro. its got its niche.
