Runeforging

I’d like to see more attention given to Runeforging, as it’s been forgotten for years. The way it is now, it would be better off being removed entirely. Seeing as there is no reason to use Stoneskin Gargoyle, Blizzard should just make Fallen Crusader and Razorice a baseline passive depending on which spec you use. Either that or give this really neat system some more love! Add more enchantments that provide utility, maybe one can give you a new ability, maybe bring back some of the Legion Artifact talents to implement into this system!

What do you all think?

Removing depth and choice from players is never ever a good thing.

No, I don’t think this is a good idea. I would rather see runeforging brought back in a big way.

oof. You used Blizzard’s favorite word; remove.

On a more serious note, I agree wholeheartedly. I miss when we had a lot of options. Yeah sure, it was another illusion of choice thing but I don’t see how that can be bad. IoC seems like a great method of attracting people because they can make their own funky builds. I know players who want to do well will min-max but that is always the less fun path (for some).

I agree they should bake FC and RR into our kite. Add ten new runes and breath uniqueness back into Death Knights.

We need new runeforges that do different things.

Some ideas I had were:

A runeforge that adds additional shadow or frost damage to every rune-spending attack. It’d have to be pretty beefy to be any good.

A runeforge that leaves a DoT on the target, further amplifying damage taken by the DK.

A runeforge similar to the latter, but reduces damage done to the DK by the afflicted target.

A runeforge that reduces rune CD by .2 or .5 seconds every Death Strike, Death Coil, or Frost Strike(mostly for leveling/low gear)

A runeforge that, on a chance from each auto-swing, adds a stack of a buff that increases the effectiveness of your next DRW, Pillar of Frost, or Army of the Dead.

A runeforge that converts a percentage of incoming magic damage to runic power.

A runeforge that leaves a slow-ticking, incurable disease on the target. The tick rate increases the lower their health percentage gets.

Runes that interact with your skills would be interesting too.

Makes you dots tick quicker, applies some debuffs like Unholy had in Legion with Army of the Dead, make your skills stack a debuff that you can use to consume them and give that little extra burst, and so on.

I would love to see the rune system upgraded with depth and USABLE possibilities, because lets face it, if the option is too bad then its not an option at all.

How bout runeforging our other gears like armors. Always thought it was nonsensical to just have ones for weapons.

Maybe they can work that into wotlk 2.0, like hey y’all dks need some saronite before y’all get final death’d. Cause it’s been wayy too quiet on the lk front for a while now.

Onlt problem with removing the current ones is that 1) what purpose does taking it way actually serve and 2) if you make it a baseline passive, then DKs will just stack with the Enchanting wep buff.

The best option would be to do what was already mentioned and create new rune-forging options. Maybe make quests about them like (i believe) the druids have for their forms, or pallys had for their mount.

If rune forges were made baseline, why would it be bad to stack with other weapon enchants. We are tuned with rune forges in mind. Every other class can have their weapon enchants stack with their class abilities. Why is it that DK isn’t allowed to do that?

Personally I would want fallen crusader and razor ice to be made baseline and some other more interesting rune forges put into place. Maybe those rune forges can offer more utility like slows or the DH magic buff.

I think it would be cool to have some flexibility in utility. We shouldn’t have all the buffs. Just something like raid leech, DH magic buff, and a slow. If a DH is in the group, we can just go get another rune forge.

The magic buff would probably be the default pick, but it would still be nice to be able to choose something else if that buff is already provided.

Idk this probably doesn’t work with blizzards philosophy that most classes have limited/low utility except a few special cases that have an abundance of utility (rogue).

If we actually had intresting talent options that led to being able to make variable valid builds for different situations then having additional rune forges that further amplified various builds could be real interesting.

As it stands now though it would be a bit of a waste because most of the time there would be only one sensible choice as there really are far to many ‘dead’ talents.

Which ones? I mean if they made them more competitive, then scribes gonna be killing it with tome otm in the AH.

I’ve only thought about using one once, on a paladin, and didn’t have to since where you spawn after death has a safe enough distance that i could even respec to holy so that he could cleanse properly when getting the artifact. So it’s a really un used item to me. Would love to sell a bunch of them tho. Lol
