Runecarver won't accept my Vessel

So I’m trying to craft my first legendary.

I have the following items in my bag:

  • Umbrahide Vest (level 190)
  • Missive of Mastery
  • Missive of Critical Strike

I have the following Powers:

  • Dire Command
  • Qa’pla, Eredun War Order
  • Rylakstalker’s Piercing Fangs
  • Call of the Wild
  • Soulforge Embers
  • Craven Stragetem

I go to the rooncarver, click him and say “I’d like to craft a legendary item.”

Open my bag.

Everything is greyed out.

Right-click the vest. Nothing happens.

Try to drag the vest onto the big red X in the Runecarving window. Nothing happens.

Says “You need an Armor Rune Vessel to craft a legendary.”

Well I have one. What am I doing wrong?

If you didn’t get notified on the other thread, check out my reply to you there:

  1. Make sure you know which base you need to apply to those memories first before acquiring or crafting one, from my post above.
  2. The umbrahide set is for leather wearers and, as a hunter, you would need an item from the boneshatter set (or grim-veiled cape, if using it on the back, or shadowghast set for ring and necklace). Although you technically can equip leather and cloth items, you need the base to be your main armor type to be able to craft it.

I did read that article and it has “Umbral Vest” listed under the Leather Base Items, so I bought that from the auction house.

I don’t understand why I if they are both listed under the useable base items I can’t use either of them for crafting a legendary item.

“Chest, Finger” doesn’t tell me anything; either of those items can be worn in the Chest slot.

How did you figure out that I need an item specifically from that set?

Since you are a hunter, in retail WoW, you will always wear mail as your armor type. So you need to purchase the boneshatter chest piece (not umbrahide leather) or it will not recognize it at the runecarver.

Thanks. That would have been better as your first answer.

It was in my other post as point number 2  you’re welcome! I’m glad to help.
