Runeblade of Baron Rivendare Nerf

With 9.1 the movement speed bonus was nerfed from a flat 10% speed boost, to 12 Speed stat. Effectively 10% at level 50, but 1% or less at level 60.

Just… why? What issue was this causing? Who was being harmed by this existing as it was? The only thing this seriously impacts is players with speed sets for old content farming. Was it really that bad to let us have that other 9% speed?

I’m really not one for the whole “fun detected” meme, but man, it sure seems to fit here. Can’t wait to see them go back and change Longstrider while they’re at it, probably going to nerf old boot enchants, too. Can’t have 10% speed from that either, right?

This one really does seem like it. We’ll never get an answer from them on this, but it seems like the kind of thing where they want folks to use gear that was made for their level. I’m just not sure how that matters for what was being done while wielding that sword.

The other reason could be they want you to slow down as you farm old content which would fit the whole “bleed the sub for every nanosecond” narrative, as well.

Both are pretty anti-consumer.

These were some of my initial thoughts as well. It wasn’t causing harm, and only made the experience more enjoyable in certain situations where gear is basically a non-factor.

This was definitely Blizz actively slowing down old farming…
Farmed this sword for my set, I hate this so much.

Drops off Rivendare in Strat dead. It has a movement speed bonus associated with it. People build sets that increase their movement speed so they can farm old content faster.

It is an old item, but it wasn’t irrelevant for those who’ve built speed sets.

I really wish they would use their resources on balancing covenants or something as opposed to nerfing and unnerfing a level 50 sword every other patch.

Yeah initially i was like why on earth would they care about something that old…but then i remembered they develop the game for metrics not enjoyment and that item probably was being used the cheeze torghast speed runs slighly by 5-10 people and well…cant have people using their heads and in game items to play content can we now…

So like do they have a dev team set to reviewing and removing fun things like this?

Nah they have everything under control and probably tons of people to spare, i mean at this rate torghast will be done by 10.1

This is the kind of petty nonsense that makes me really lose respect for Blizzard, if there’s any left to lose.

But it sounds exactly the kind of thing a company that has the production quality of SL would do.

Well, this is a possibility, I suppose. Though you can’t change gear on combat floors, and the damage hit from using a level 50 weapon sure isn’t going to fly for very long. You’d lose more time in inefficient combat than you’d gain from running a bit faster in this case.

Old stuff being relevant for new stuff is a no no for Blizz

Im trying to think of what this item was wrecking that it needed a balance patch like 6 expansions later is all…and i cant…unless they are so keen to make travel as time consuming as possible to extend play time metrics…

Am i missing something?

I mean they wouldnt need to time gate and meter progress in SL if like…you know…they utilized the last 17 years of content in game better…juuuuusssst sayin…

Sure feels like we’re missing something. It just doesn’t make sense to nerf it at this point. This thing has been used in old content since Cata, and the introduction of transmog and large scale appearance farming. Why take that away now?

Yeah left alone simply for the nostalgia…maybe it was being abused by M+ people? Seems a lot of the “wtf” changes they make to this game revolves around a super tiny group of M+ people doing strange things and we all suffer for it.

First time, huh?

I’d say there’s practically no way it could be used in M+ for the same reasons it’s unlikely in Torghast: you can’t change gear, and you lose too much compared to the gain.

Not the first, but most of the time I find that claim to be extremely exaggerated, and more of a meme/buzz word. Usually I can at least understand the reasoning or directive behind something, even if that reason upsets some players, including myself.

In this case, though, not so much.
