Rune of Unending Thirst, useless?

With shadowlands around the corner we are finally able to test the new runeforges using the PTR. I was particularly interested in Rune of Unending thirst, as based on the tooltip (haste and run speed) it looked like the best chance of giving me back something close to that old fast paced unholy presence style of play. I tested it, the haste didn’t do anything, the move speed didn’t stack with other buffs, I reported a couple of bugs and waited for a couple of builds.

Build 35755 gets release and they updated the tool tip to make it extra clear that the haste is not suppose to be passive, they also nerfed the passive movespeed down to 5%. When you get a killing blow that provides honor or experience, you get 5% max health healed and get 10% haste and 10% move speed for 10 seconds. The runeforge as a whole is pathetic compared to the 6% max health and 15% strength for 15 seconds you get from a fallen crusader proc, a proc that can go off multiple times per battle, even with a single enemy your own level.

Maybe if it was something serious, like the 50% haste you could get from a soul reaper kill back in MoP then I would consider it, but as it stands this runeforge completely fails to achieve anything really. A 10% passive haste buff would barely (if at all) compete with the ~50% uptime fallen crusader 15% str, and definitely doesn’t compete with the periodic 6% heals.

Has anyone else experienced similar with any of the new runeforges? are there any viable modifications to playstyle? does anything compete with fallen crusader?

Yes. It is worthless just like all of the new runeforges.
Complete waste of dev time.

RotSG, RotFC, and Razorice are the only viable choices depending on spec.

Correct, long as there 3 Runes are in place. No flavor Runes will ever compete.

RotFC can be baked in: Third/fourth War

Razorice Baked into a talent row for frost: Think Glascial Advance, Frostscythe, and Avalanche were on the same row all applying Razorice when used to targets.

Now leave all the new Runes to be flavor. Some better than others for different specs and game play.

I rather Runes be applied as stated above however below could work too.

Clear out a talent row and make simply be Empowered Rune Craving Row. 3 talents that appy one of the older Runes: RoTFC | RotSG | Cinderglacier (Razorice doesn’t play well with Blood or Unholy)

Rune of Sanguination won’t be useless.

Who would use that? The heal has a 6 min cooldown.

Tanks will get much better mileage from Stoneskin Gargoyle. DPS can’t use it. And nobody is giving up Fallen Crusader for PvP which gives strength and comes with it’s own heal.

Except those of use who take razorice for even bigger obliteration windows.

There are also kill windows that sometimes require target switching. That makes Razorice problematic in PvP. And that’s not even accounting for the invaluable healing that FC brings to the table. That heal is constantly under-valued.

Maybe, I will have to see once SL hits. I can’t even bring myself to log in to my DK to check how much healing it does for me, knowing 2H is just around the corner.

It definetly it a niche use - and I would agree to the extent that the other two would be better in a lot of scenarios - however I can also see it having a place in PvP as Blood due to the damage increase it gives on Death Strike. Currently it increases the damage done by Death Strike by 1% per percentage of enemy health missing.

I also believe it is a five minute cool-down which is lengthy but a 6% - 10% heal per second if used with Vampiric Blood is a lot. It is far more on demand than Rune of the Fallen Crusader - at least every few minutes.

The enemy at 40% health? Death Strike is now hitting 60% harder, which would also make Dancing Rune Weapon and its Death Strike’s hit 60% harder. It would be somewhat of a lite execute.
