Rune of Power is waning on me

After 3 expansions of this being the best, I have to say I’m over it.

When I play any other class at this point and go into a burst rotation I look down at the ground for a moment to make sure I’m standing on my Rune of power…

But wait… no other class I play has such a mechanic. I’m actually free to move anywhere during my burst.

That’s when I realized I’ve been using this talent for too long. LOL.

Let’s look up for now on! Help us blizzard and change rune of power to a self buff

its been the mandatory talent for so long now I’m surprised it isn’t baseline at this point

supposedly Incanters Flow isn’t too far behind, but I know what you mean. At least our burst spells activate it so there’s less GCD now

ROP needs to be deleted. In fact, just delete that entire talent row. While they’re there they can look at fixing/deleting pretty much all the other talents.

Bake a damage increase into the specs baseline, and then rework them so that they have some actual burst outside of ROP.

The only talent in that row that needs to be looked at is focus magic.

The other two are fine.

Nah plant those damn feet and start pumping n praying for procs.

FWIW, the effective area of ROP is way bigger than the graphic. It’s more like the size of one of the DH sigils. There are still some heavy movement situations where you’re forced away from it but I kinda feel like for a 45sec cd a scuff chance doesn’t need to be impossible.

It’s way easier to mess up combust, resonating arrow windows, arcane power windows or something like breath of syndragosa then it is to lose a RoP.

But i can sympathize with the tired angle. I’d really rather not see focus magic become amazing because the last thing this game needs is more external 1-buddy DPS buffs like PI.

Isn’t MW monk’s upcoming tier bonus something like a RoP?

Mages: “Press all my cooldowns, I’m almost as good as a hunter, but the WW is beating me.”

…Large swirls appear that are much larger than your rune of power area…leaving you with a tough decision…

Healers: “Don’t stand in stuff”
Mages: “But I won’t do DPS”
Healers: “Then I’ll invite a hunter”

Do you need like, words of encouragement or something? Mages have been a top tier M+ spec this entire expansion. Hunters were top tier for 1 patch and it isn’t this one and it likely won’t be the next one.

WW uncapped AOE is absolutely busted and no one should be asking to be as broken as something that is blatantly overtuned and will get corrected at some point in the future.

I used to absolutely hate Rune of Power, but with the change in Shadowlands to making it automatically cast when one of the 3 major cooldowns is pressed I find myself hating it way less.

Imagine thinking standing still would be a fun game mechanic.

It was a massive improvement, and I thought the same, but after a couple tiers I still wish it was gone. For some reason I feel like any buff that requires you to stand on it is a conflict of game fundamentals.

I suspect an additional useful change they could implement for RoP is a mechanic similar to Shaman’s Vesper Totem - when you use RoP / major CD RoP it is replaced by an ability that allows to relocate it to a different place. This ability should have a CD though so it is not spammable and does not make the talent entirely “on-the-move” as this niche is covered by Incanter’s Flow. At least the change would make RoP much less vulnerable to dangerous mechanics in PVE and against melee in PVP.

haha thats what im getting from this. needs a self confidence boost or a little nudge to keep playing Mage or something.

Why would they give you burst damage outside of your cooldowns? Given you are always lining RoP up with a cd aside from frost it makes sense for your burst to come from that window.

Incanters flow never made much sense either, besides for frost during legion, which didn’t really have significant burst windows.

My thought is that this whole talent row should change to one baseline buff. I.E. when Icy-veins, combustion and arcane power are active you now gain 20% increase spell power for 15 seconds. (And of course adjust the damage of spells to adjust for the difference between this and rune of power).

And then this talent row is replaced with more interesting choices

I hate, hate, hate Rune of Power.

Back when I played Vanilla, mages were all about “shoot-n-scoot”. We were too fragile to take hits so it was all about kiting and moving while maximizing dps.

Rune of Power is the exact opposite of that fun dynamic gameplay. It forces us to plant in place and gun turret during our burn. It’s bad enough that Arcane has to do that with Arcane Blast, but Rune of Power makes that the gameplay for all 3 mage specs.

And sure you can move around a little while still staying in the Rune… but it’s definitely not the freedom of being able to Shoot-n-scoot that mages used to enjoy.

Wy not? Not saying it needs to be a 50% dps increase, but there’s no reason why burst has to be specifically tied to our main CD and only that window. It’s less of an issue for Fire with short combustion windows, but in the case of IV that provides very little burst I see no reason why all our burst should be tied to a long setup CD. GS used to fill this niche, as did spells like CmS but sadly both of those are just awful right now.

But if ROP doesn’t exist, that’s no longer an issue. The removal of ROP (and that whole talent row) in addition to fixing some of the other talents would give a lot more choice for all 3 specs, and that’s not a bad thing. At the moment there are too many talents that are just so far ahead in terms of power and how they sync with other systems that it makes the game boring.

Right on! It is literally the opposite of how we are suppose to play our class. All about movement and being fast on our feet.

Rune of power has been disappointing me since legion.
