Rules of Engagement: Classic Hardcore is Coming to World of Warcraft

this all sounds pretty cool!

i just wish there was a retail hardcore version… oh well. maybe i’m a moron for wishing that. i don’t know.

There is already an option in the game that allows player to block trading, why not turn this on from levels 1-59 for those that want it and choose this during character creation so that when you reach level 60 it is actually an achievement worthy of being called hardcore? That falls in line with the communities way of doing things.

Just use the addon.

because they’ve literally already seen that community is more than capable of policing their own additional rules if they want, so choosing option that lets both them and those who want trading to co exist is best for all. but even surveys conducted from people who played by the rules on era, was like 52/48 split for AH vs no AH. it’s pretty close.

I think if you want the era playstyle to continue (no trading no AH) the addon using HC community will still thrive with that playstyle.

But yeah, setup the basic feature set that was missing from era, and continue letting the community add their own rules is best call.

Super excited to play this. While the perma-death takes a special kind of person to enjoy this game mode will undoubtedly be full of people who love classic era WoW. RMT / bots will be high risk because it’s all gone in a single death - hopefully meaning they are fewer. One thing is for sure - lvl 60 will be full of dedicated people.

Dungeon rule seems wack as f***.

Especailly after the leak about RXP Hardcore and them talking to the dev about that very thing

Game on!

Sounds great.

Guess wait and see about Ah vs no Ah, on the fence myself about that issue. Would like the ah disabled myself but trading viable within level ranges.

Aprove of the once a day dungeon lockout.

There’s a lot of misunderstanding in this thread about AH, trading, and mail. Disabling those activities isn’t in the spirit of hardcore, it was a necessary exclusion in the addon to prevent hardcore players from receiving non-hardcore related resources. Now that everyone is hardcore there are no multi-life resource farms feeding rare materials and gear into the economy and market to “cheat” with.

“Yeah but if you let people do those things it makes the trip to 60 easier! And gold bots! And and and It’s SOFTCORE” QQ

First: If you want to play SSF, by all means go for it.
Gold bots will still exist, but their impact will be drastically scaled down compared to non-hc realms (retail, classic, or otherwise). Why? Because if you buy a bunch of gold, it only lasts as long as you can survive with it, and if you’re the type of person who needs to buy gold you’re not the type of person who will survive the journey to 60 or for very long after the fact.
This ties in to all aspects of the in game economy, in that being able to engage in trade only helps you for as long as you’re alive while having the positive benefit of reducing competition on harvesting nodes, and preventing the waste of boe blues and epics.

Also lol “give us a separate server with <MY PREFERRED FLAVOR OF HC>”. LOL.

I’m fine with no bubble hearth, reincarnation, or soul stones, just also please remove Rogue’s vanish since it serves the same purpose.

You make a good point about the AH, viral. Would free up taking engineering for the helm in early levels for me.

with the amount of people trying to “cheat” the addon I don’t think they are very capable at all, and choosing my option would clearly let both sides co exist so I don’t know what you mean by that

Can we get the regular buff and debuff limit removed for regular classic era? For people who arn’t interested in hardcore.

Any word on what “brag swag” we are going to get for completing a HC journey? If there isn’t any juice worth the squeeze… the WoW flavor for HC is pretty lack luster.

this just simply isn’t true
disabling trading, ah, and mail is in the spirit of hardcore because that’s what makes it hard. There are multi-life resource farms in the form of bots that won’t be deterred at all by a simple death on a toon since they can mail at increments and still farm dubious amounts of resources. Having an option for players to choose to play an ironman at character creation on the same server that people are trading, and having those ironmen be identified by a simple buff that disables trading from lvls 1-59 is not a huge ask at all

Allowing AH/trading/mail, at least with players below 60, will diminish the accomplishment of getting to 60–especially with unlimited grouping. That alone will basically turn off the people who started Hardcore.

It sucks that the people who literally created the WoW HC challenge basically get shafted because Blizz wants to cater to the people who want to say they did HC without the work. But that’s pretty much on-brand for Blizz.

Blizz should just create a “Hardcore HC” realm with no AH/trading/mail and a “Softcore HC” realm with AH/trading/mail.

did you read the post?

Exactly. With AH/Trading/Mail blocked 1-59, you know the person who hits 60 did it the hard way and not with a credit card or farm bots feeding gear and consumes.

On Era, I’ve leveled alts with and without help from my main. It’s a very different experience leveling with a blue weapon and full AH green gear than it is without.
