Ruining others' fun for one's own amusement

TL;DR: It’s not “just a game”. Report toxic people, don’t defend them.

Long time player here. I haven’t had the time or the energy to play as much as I’d like recently (stress, job, life in general) so I value the time I am able to spare.

I log on to run some time walking dungeons with my friend and we get put into a group with a warrior (tank) and a shaman (dps). The shaman tries to kick someone for “being afk all evening”. This is a lie. That person was active and doing more damage than the shaman. I refused to kick the person. The shaman stops doing damage. The shaman runs off and pulls extra mobs only to die twice. I ask the shaman to do damage. The shaman asks me if I stand by my decision to not kick the other dps. I say yes, because they do more damage than the shaman. The shaman then accuses me of wanting to kick the other person (which is completely false). The shaman and the warrior (tank) kick me from the group during a boss fight. In my 10+ years of playing this game, I have never been removed from a group. The warrior then takes enjoyment in having ruined my dungeon run. They then kick my friend (healer) from the group as well (during the final boss fight). I get messages going down the troll handbook. Every insult from age, gender, race; this guy has it all. He’s enjoying every second of my being upset at having been removed from the group. (I can’t even put him on ignore. I get a message that says the player doesn’t exist. Is it because I’m on a different sever? I don’t know.)

There are those who will say I should have ignored him, should have not spoken out in defense of the other player, shouldn’t have let him know I was upset, that it’s just a game, move on. That is wrong. These statements do nothing but defend toxic behavior. If you see another player actively lying, encouraging other group members to bully and kick someone, or posting hateful harassing messages in chat, report that player. I know that player will read this and get some sort of sick enjoyment out of it, but I did my best to offer help to them and all I get back is immature, toxic, trolling.

Welcome to Democracy. Next time, queue with one more friend so you can out vote people like this.

Wow is not a democracy. It’s a private game with unilateral rules and design imposed by its owners.

The more you know…

I only do dungeons with full group of guild or friends, I don’t ever pug.

Next time, use the ticket system if you can’t ignore or report in game.

WoD TW is just horrid all around; garbage like that Shaman just make things worse.

I tried kicking a Tank that refused to do his job and was a sarcastic butt about it, we kill the last boss and I had horrid anxiety the entire time for… no apparent reason.

I get up and talk to my roommate… he said somebody kept trying to vote-kick me the entire duration of the last boss. Eyup. Good thing I queued with him.

The one time I tried doing this TW with a guild, it was actually a worse run than the PUGs I got into. /shudder

The most toxic part of BfA isn’t pathfinder, azerite, class design, or the plot. It’s the playerbase. I honestly believe that the biggest improvement Blizz could make in 8.2 is to start handing out bans like flyers advertising windshield repair services.

it sounds like your friend clicked yes to boot you from the group… i’d probably have a chat with your friend…

Either case… this is nothing new… this has been going on for decades in more games than just wow. unfortunately you just gotta learn deal with it and learn to be an adult.

you don’t want to chat in modern wow.

I was going to say the same thing. I thought it took three people to remove someone from a group.

Two people cannot kick you - guess what the person you were defending probably also voted to kick you.

I’ve been running into more immature dbags like this in the last year or so, as new players join the game. Sadly, reporting is all there is; and then just physically ignore the a-hole. I just keep in mind two things about these people:

How sad their lives must be to get a kick out of being a dbag behind a keyboard.

That they’re behind a keyboard, and would never behave this way in person.

It takes a pretty f-ed up person or a very young one, to get a kick out of making someone else’s time miserable. It’s like this on the forums, you get talking about an issue, and when you dare to not agree with one of them, they get off topic and just act stupid and want to keep it going.

Even if they know they won’t get some emotional, angry response, they’ll pester for a while, anyway. They have nothing better to do. Most of these people are of low intelligence, so responding even logically will get you nowhere. Diffusing the situation has about a 2% success chance, sadly.

What I’m about to say is not “vanilla love” or anything, just what me and several other’s have experienced:

10-15 years ago (not just on WoW), this sort of issue was not nearly as common. Gaming more than say…12 years ago was not something everyone did, like today. A lot of people didn’t have games or even a PC, so as tech and prices became available to more and more ranges of people, gaming popularity has increased, and with that we get the dbags, too. Now, the games are online and no one has dialup anymore (not that I know of, lol).

Back then, it was kinda rare, but didn’t expect it. Now, I expect it all the time.

You’re free to report them but for me it’s still the consequences of having a LFD. People using LFD don’t care who you are because they’ll probably never meet you again and the game give them votekick power. You could make your own group and not have to deal with this, but the occurence rate of that problem is normally low enough that people will still prefer a queue system like LFD over making their own group.

I’m so sorry OP, that’s very unlucky. The only time I ever got kicked from a dungeon was I was rp walking from the sum Stone to the entrance because I was putting on music haha. Your situation sucks though :slightly_frowning_face:

Blizzard is to blame. If you are not afk and kicked you should get an instant que to a new group.

Report this as a bug, and you’ll be doing a lot more to improve the game than reporting him.

You have to put their name and then their server or it’ll give you the “player does not exist” error… alot of times you have to type it out manually, if you are having this problem often you should get the global ignore list addon which gives you infinite ignores and shares your ignore list to all your alts.

manually for like me you would have to type /ignore vixxÿ-azuremyst just as an example if you don’t get the addon.

I think a better mechanic would be that if you get kicked you automatically get the loot that was going to drop for you in the dungeon. That way nobody gets mad.

It takes a few tries for some reason. I always had that problem. Just keep doing it and eventually it will work.
