RTX Classic

Currently, when you look at a reflection off of water: trees don’t show up, just the landscape. I would love to be able to see a reflection off of the water that was accurate, including those of players and npcs.

WTB RTX support for classic. I would even invest in an RTX card just for that.

Actually, that would be kind of neat, but to parrot the zealots on these forums, NO CHANGE, even if it sounds cool.

As long as you’re not forced to use RTX / improved graphics. I don’t think #nochanges will apply here

Since we’re on the topic, I find that turning ground clutter off, really help with finding quest items. I’ll be turning off ground clutter to try to stay ahead of the Zerg at launch

Oh my naive new friend. Quickly put on your fire resist armor. . They will be here soon.

Also, while it would be nice support I don’t think they will put it in for some time. It took a LONG time to get DX12 support added and Blizzard has always been very good at aiming at lower machine’s to help more people play.

But we can add it to the wishlist for the live client.

All modern water effects are available in game. Just switch your graphics to it.

We’re not getting modern models or textures, before you roll onward though.

There’s no toggles to change water effects back to “Vanilla”. We’re stuck with modern water. Still doesnt even come close to RTX quality, lack of actual reflections screams into my face while I’m hopping around lakes and rivers.

I’m aware of the Vanilla models and textures being all that we’re getting, along with improved lighting. Since we’re getting a change in the lighting engine anyway, just add RTX to further improve it.

Uh… yeah there is.

Liquid Detail : Low is the procedural water that Vanilla always had and has always been in the game.

That’s why I said that the modern water is available. You’re not going to get better water textures in Classic than Retail.

“Since you’re replacing your hubcaps off your 1973 Pontiac, why not gut the vehicle, replace the engine and install an electrical distribution manifold…”

I think you’re going a little overboard with the slippery slope there.

I’ll have to confirm this next stress test.

I’m asking for lighting (RTX), not textures.

Thanks for your input, anyway.

Terrible analogy. The engine and drivetrain are already completely replaced. Adding RTX would be like adding a chrome trim finish.

Thanks anyway

I did. It’s accurate.

Mistake in statement. You’re not going to get better water effects.

They’re not replacing the lighting system. That’s where your analogy was wrong. They’re using the Retail graphics engine that is already in place, and tweaking the lighting on objects. They haven’t made any significant changes to the Retail graphics engine for Classic, except to reintroduce some of the old features like blob shadows and fully procedural water. The lighting changes were tweaks to values to make it look the same under the updated Retail engine.

The lighting system is from the modern client. We’re not getting the Vanilla lighting, unless you toggle way down. Even then I’m sure there will be discrepancies.

I’d be posting this request in GD if I could. But i’m not allowed. I only want to play Classic anyway

pls don’t mention to the #NoChanges zealots that classic won’t support Windows 98 anymore

only plebs used 98, its all about… VISTA!

well 2000 then vista

Yes. Which is already written and tested code. They’re using the Retail client. They are not building new graphics capabilities for Classic that aren’t already written and tested in Retail.

The changes to lighting are where the old data files didn’t quite reflect the lighting under the new system. Tweaks to data values, not a new lighting system.

Now I’d like to see this as an option for wow classic.

“new” lighting system as compared to Vanilla’s graphical engine.
Nothing is actually new.
I think everyone understands this clearly enough.
(grumble grumble, feel like im being trolled for having to spell it out)

In other words, a change to lighting is already made by using modern client, adding RTX wouldnt be a sacrilege.

I feel like I’m being trolled here.

On one hand, they are tweaking values in a data file to make the lighting look right. This is easy and can be done by Interns.

On the other hand, you’re suggesting they implement an entirely new graphics component above and beyond what Retail does, in a game trying to recreate the world as it was 15 years ago. A component that would require months of testing and senior development resources for a product whose majority of players will be downgrading the graphics.

These are not equal. These are not similar. These are exponential leaps in difference of scale.

#NoChanges, some people need to stay in retail.

Will it support ppc macs? I still have my old G5 that i used to play wow on.

Yes, but you will need to have Mac OS X Tiger installed

Ok, Mother. Have it your way. I’ll just ignore the fact that the lighting and shadows are already much improved in Classic vs Vanilla.

I am, this is true  I’m suggesting that changes that are already happening could be further advanced. Even if its months or years down the road. RTX would make the World of Warcraft absolutely stunning

You still have the classic spot on your graphics slider. Stick to what you know.

Any source to prove that? I’ll admit that I will turn off ground clutter just for questing. Then back up to max once anytime I decide. But I’m not complaining about using the modern engine.

Edit: I suppose that RTX would allow people to see NPCs and opposing players shadows and potential reflections from around the corners. That would be game breaking for some.
