RTX 4060 Is A Dud

Don’t get a 4060. Get a 4060 ti or an AMD equivalent. The 4060 is a stripped down 3060 while the 4060 ti has 4th gen RTX cores.

which would be…?

They should never have made it. They would have Honestly made more money if they had just stopped making new variants after the 4070 and made nothing but 4070s, 4080s and 4090s. Instead of making new cards just gradually reduce the price on those three cards. Then over time keep dropping the price gradually and once you hit a market selling price or you start selling more than you ever have you lock it at that price

They would have actually made a lot more money just doing that. Flooding people with too many options never works. Companies keep thinking the public needs more options. No they need cheaper options so just reduce the price on what you’re already making instead of making something new.

If you do it this way then eventually you start making your money on volume. You also don’t have product literally sitting on store shelves that no one is touching. True you will be selling it at cheaper rates but you are constantly selling all your product instead of having different versions of it sit on a shelf and collect cobwebs.

Marketing managers used to understand this. Nowadays they just don’t

there is a lot of misinformation here and a ton of projecting and that doesn’t help anyone

why? on many review sites it’s the best card you can get for $300.

no it’s not, the 3060 has a larger die size, smaller cache, more memory, larger bus yet smaller bandwidth. In fact the AD107 in the rtx4060 has 60% more transistors than the GA106 in the RTX3060. The RTX4060 is also a x8 interface card as opposed to the x16 of the RTX3060.

the AD106 i n the RTX4060 is a “4th gen” chip

I can make just as many reasons for avoiding one as the other.
The RTX4060 certainly has its issues (rather many) but misinformation and going scorched earth on it helps no one. Everyone has different needs and desires.

most likely the RX 6700XT but it’s $50 more and a previous gen. Also the AMD card is not as power efficient. Part of the problem for consumers is AMD is more concerned about clearing old inventory than introducing new units.

performance wise its ok, they should have never called it the RTX4060 but rather the RTX4050ti and they should have priced it at $249. No one would complaining then.

so the introductory price for gaming with a new card would be $600. There are lots of people who can’t afford or would simply say I’m getting a console.

that’s actually happening and part of the problem. Nvidia has not really filled out their price point line up. In fact they have come out stating they want graphic cards to cost as much as a new console. Many gamers who want to upgrade are now looking at used top tier from the RTX 3XXX series as opposed to something decent in this generation for value and performance.

i can tell you first hand you need to sell a lot of volume to make up for lost margin. Nvidia (and AMD) want to hold onto their high price points and their customers (the stockholders) agree with them.

yes it does, remember 10-20 years ago. We had LE, SE, GSO, GS, ti, super, etc., models of cards and prices were great. More options means more competition. More competition keeps pricing down.

once again this tough to do. We raised our prices by 10-15% while production stayed the same and our profits went up. Volume went down some but not enough to impact profit. Nvidia will sell a ton of the RTX4060 because it hits a price point consumers like and better yet the mass PC sellers like the price point. Also, the AD107 is a fairly budget friendly chip to make with high margins. Remember for the most part Nvidia does not sell to consumers (outside of FE cards), they sell to business. Nvidia (and AMD) sell their GPU chips and the design to the AIBs and the AIBs sell their cards to you.

not an Nvidia/AMD problem. It’s a AIB problem.

and your true customers will flip out

they (speaking as a former MM) understand their business models rather well.

Fact is the RTX4060 has its place. Price wise it’s over positioned. I personally would not recommend it for most people. Even coming from the RTX2060, it does not look like much of a value but if someone has limited budget and simply wants some performance so they can play older games or with friends I’m willing to help with recommendations and will list the pros and cons. Stating you need to spend $600 on a GPU or don’t bother helps no one. PC gaming is a wide spectrum and the more people who are gamers, brings in more companies (like intel into GPUs), brings in more competition, results in lowers prices for everyone. That is a win - win.

RTX 4060 ($323) has no place for me. 128-bit and 8GB. Hard pass. I could find Arc A750 and 3060 12GB at cheaper price. No way I gonna pay 250 or higher for 8GB too.

For the prices here depending on budget.

RTX 3080 Ti ($750) > RX 6800 XT ($660) > RX 6800 ($550) > RX 6750 XT ($374) > RTX 3060 12GB ($270) > A750 ($246)

RTX 4070 - $611
RTX 4060 Ti - $415

In most benchmarks I’ve seen, the old 2080 that I have in my spare computer is equal or slightly better than the 4060. That’s not too bad really, since the 2080 still runs everything very well. But then again, someone could probably just find a used 2080 for cheaper than a 4060. DLSS 3.0 might be the only reason to go with the 4060, if the games that you care about actually support it. WoW doesn’t.

I’m still happy playing 3440x1440 ultra wide on my old MSI GTX1080ti and 8700k processor. It’s really held up, and is similar in performance to the 4060 without the newer features such as DDR6.

Exactly.

Most people do not NEED an upgrade unless you are going balls to the wall OLED 4k gaming. Which is like 5% of the gaming audience. Buy a graphics card you are happy with that does what you want then stop watching tech videos. They will just make you want to upgrade when you dont need to. Dont look at charts online either. Just enjoy your rig

this is so arrogant and not true lol
new gpus come with new architecture under the hood with new directx features and new optimizations while obsolete cards don’t have even modern drivers
then there is stunning RTX
