Have a friend that’s started to have an itch to upgrade his 1080 Ti, and the 3060 looks like it sits basically right on top of the 1080 Ti in terms of performance… seems like he’s gonna have to wait for quite some time before anything that’s a significant upgrade is accessible.

curious as to how it compares to the 1060 6gb.
Yeah my friends in the same boat. He wanted to just do a new build but has had no luck getting his hands on a new card. I told him I’d just build it with the 1080 ti he has now, just not worth it.
Seems about 2x as fast as a 1060 6gb. It’s a worthy upgrade IMO and gets you DLSS and semi-competent ray tracing.
But I wouldn’t pay more than $400 for it. In a perfect world.
Regardless. It is still way better than my GTX960. I just hope it stays in the $350-$400 range and the most important, AVAILABLE!

I wouldn’t hesitate to pay $329 MSRP for these, as they match (usually) the 5700 XT, and those cards were easily worth $350 before the mining boom. Plus they have DLSS, RTX, and NVENC. It’s also cheaper than the 2060 SUPER which it replaces at $399, and it outperforms that as well.
In a vacuum it’s a great card, until you see the 3060ti is a lot better for not much more.
Seems to be a card that’s good value if you haven’t bought one in a while and you can get it at msrp. Definitely wouldn’t want to pay more than that though imo.

The only route I’ve tried to acquire one has been Newegg Shuffle on the MSRP cards. I’m unwilling to pay more than $329 for this card.
It’s a sidegrade at best for my wife - but it would mean I get the 5700XT in my other computer.

Just find a cheap card with around GTX 1060 performance and buy it. Price will only settle down when COVID is over and crypto crash. I think 2022 onwards.
Oh, prebuilts and laptops could be “cheaper” as well.
