Well, its definitely going to be quieter and performance really depends on the game.
Unless you were already planning on taking that gpu and moving it into the living room pc, maybe consider an after market gpu cooler? NZXT G12 + Asetek Variant AIO?
You can find some rx 5700xt at that price as well. At least last I looked.
Not a big fan of AMD Drivers myself, but so far drivers seem stable for me.
I am presently using a 5700 XT; and ideally i would prefer to just wait for new cards to drop and then shift this down to her.
But…she doesn’t really like AMD. Bad experiences, and every time something happens she’s quick to blame it.
It’s the reason we have a TV gaming PC to begin with. Two years ago, the 1600 had so many issues (bad motherboard ultimately) she had me build her a new system with Intel parts.
Happy wife happy life is kind of my state of being right now.
Then there was nothing to talk about to begin with!
But yes worst case, she think the 2060 is loud and you spending more on an aftermarket cooler.
Happy SO happy life…the reason why I no longer own the pair of apple airpods pro anymore.
Would have recommended you venture into the used market as 1080ti are not much more, but the demand for 1080ti surged over this pandemic and stock are closed to drying up.
Lots of reasons. Drivers, personal experience and history to name a few.
I have personal experience with AMD and my personal experience tells me AMD products take more work to get running perfectly.
“Best performance” is subjective, as you can have amazing performance per dollar but if reliability isn’t there, it doesn’t matter.
You can have the same arguments about cars etc and sometimes personal preference can be more important than any other factor.
Now, for me, I am perfectly fine with the amount of work that goes into getting AMD stuff to work. This is why I primarily buy and use AMD GPUs, as they are really great value for the money. But knowing this with my experience, I can’t say AMD GPUs are the best out of the box experience. Vega 64 generally was throttling out of the box in most cards because of how stupid high they set voltages. They also had stupid low max fan speeds. The same is generally true regarding the 5700XT, which I also have and needed to manage undervolting and user-end tweaking so it wouldn’t be cooking the hot spot and memory.
I’m perfectly okay with dealing with these things. I do however get tired of having to go over to my wife’s system to continually tweak it to her preferences, be it for stability, noise, or performance. AMD GPUs are for enthusiasts who like to make these changes. But for her, it’s an inconvenience for me to have to go kick her off the PC so I can tinker around her settings for each specific game to get running perfectly within noise/performance tolerances.
Nvidia stuff generally works out of the box without problems. I can probably get one and stick in her computer, and not worry about it until she wants to upgrade.
I actually have my computer positioned in such a way that she can’t see the lights, because she has migraine with aura that tends to leave her more sensitive to lights.
My scheme is a white NZXT S340, with red and white LED lights within. But…its under the desk so I can’t even see it
What kind of frame rates are you getting in wow. I currently run a RX580 with a 3300x and I want to get my system to not drop below 80 fps in raids. Wondering what kind of build I would need for that to happen.
tbh i haven’t done any of the raids in wow since i got the 5700xt.
i just resubbed and am just goofing off on classic atm and a new character in retail.
i can queue up for some LFR I guess a little later. I play on 7 setting at 1440p and get 144fps capped pretty much out in the world, and in cities it doesn’t really go below 90 or so.
