I am coming back and preparing for War Within and playing out the end of this xpac as well.
RSham seems to be in the spot it’s been in time and time again: low on the healer tier list.
I have always loved RSham and the class fantasy and just passion and feelings I have for it, but if I play it (I only have time for one character) to my fullest, will I be gimping myself vs, say, MW, which is the only other interest I have, but to a lesser extent?
M+ and raiding are my only interests, and I’m sure I’d be fine being accepted into raids, but M+ is probably the content I’d be doing more often. Key 15, 20+, if I climb up to that level, will I still be viable, or is it a silly pursuit to main RSham seriously?
I am currently able to push up to 21 keys, and my Ilvl is still somewhat low, and i dont even have my 4 piece. Ive seen very few Rshams with IOs higher than 3k. If you want the easier route, MW Monk might be the better logical choice. However, im not a meta slave, i make Rsham work just fine.
If you want to do 20s or lower R shaman is more than fine. I regularly do 18’s on my shaman without a problem and when I do other keys it takes time to get invited but mostly because people are ilvl and io freaks instead because im a resto shaman.
Do I have a hard time? Not necessarily, but I do get declined for keys sometimes, even ones ive already timed. At the level Im doing, I usually form my own group. The struggle, in my opinion, isnt necessarily being an Rsham, its the group comp. For instance, last night I did a 21 Waycrest, on Fort and Bolster week. If interrupts are being missed, someones dying. If the tank pulls too much, someones dying. One of the regular witch mobs, an un-interrupted bolstered Soul Bolt was one shotting people for 600k. That’s unhealable. An infected thorn dot was ticking for 250k on two different party members. I only have one cleanse, and Fireblood for myself. You can heal through that, if you pop some serious cool downs.
However, if you go to Atal Dazar, BRH, DHT, I can usually breeze through those.
Feels perfectly fine for M+ if you aren’t planning to push ridiculously high keys and I’d say it’s probably my preferred 18-20 pug healer to play because of wind shear, cap totem, and thunderstorm offering a ton of mob disruption when your dps inevitably refuse to do so. I don’t feel like I get declined for just being a Shaman and a there’s a lot of pug groups that really like having lust in the healer spot.
A huge bonus as part of making Rsham your main is you get access to Ele and Enhance as dps off-specs which are both a ton of fun and why I prefer maining this character over my Druid.
i think resto shaman is behind the pack, but not shockingly or handicappingly so. it does alright. a good resto shaman will outheal a decent anything else. plus you look cooler doing it.
oh no, sorry, i don’t do mythics on my shaman haha. but i’m surprised that’s the litmus test for “good” or not. I’m accepted into every raid pug i try.
I like to stay within content I’m comfortable with so I can’t speak on huge keys, but the 20’s and 21’s I’ve done so far were very comfortable. I can keep people alive relatively easily, my damage is pretty decent, and my kit is incredible (IMO).
I don’t see you having any issues if you want to play one.
