For the purposes of creating the backstory for one of my characters, specifically my human mage, I’ve been reading through lore (I’ve read the books prior to the retcon material) and timelines. What I am trying to figure out is what year it is in the universe. There is a lot of overlap with lore from later expansions, so I don’t know what I can trust lore-wise to create a decent RP backstory.
I know so far that the defias and the second war are both possibilities I can include in my backstory. My RP plan was to have a small segment about my character’s family since it will form her as a person in this RP universe.
How much could I reference of Burning Crusade and Wrath? Any other thoughts related to lore that would be reasonable for an RP in forming a background story?
I’ve not actually seen much of a unified opinion on this one, at least from my time on the Grobbulus discord. People aren’t sure how much of post-Vanilla lore we want to make use of.
Personally I’m not going to use any knowledge that we gained post-Vanilla.
Though anything from the second or third war should be fine. Those are events primarily covered by the RTS games.
That’s what I was thinking. I am trying to get a feel for what is expected. I’m new to the RP community in WoW but not to creative writing or otherwise. This is good insight so far.
Excellent. Thank you both. That’s what I thought. Definitely gives me something to work with for my human’s back story. It also helps me to establish her motivations, goals etc.
