So, I was thinking about this this morning, and thought of something almost every roleplayer has probably thought of before: how amazing it would be if garrisons continued from WoD? Or, even reappeared in a future patch? Now, I believe that that will -never- happen, but it’s still something cool to think about. When I thought about this in depth, I came up with some really cool ideas, and why it would be a big step for roleplaying.
You know those guards that walk around the garrison? The ones that, if you get exalted with them, they patrol your garrison? What if they EXTENDED that system, and made it so almost every faction in the game could be able to patrol your garrison? Of course, factions like Ashen Verdict (since that they’re basically gone now) or Operation: Shieldwall/Dominance Offensive (since they’re already Alliance and Horde themed) wouldn’t be in this list. But imagine being exalted with the Argent Crusade, or the Steamwheedle Cartel, or the Shado-Pan, and then having guards of that faction patrol your garrison. You would get exalted with said faction, and then speak to some captain who can summon the guards on your command, instead of having hundreds of emissaries in your garrison - they would just have to make one. Or, they could even make an emissary per expansion. Long story short, you would have the option to have like 80% of the game’s factions be able to patrol your garrison. And like the death knights, with the Ebon Blade, make it so warlocks can have demons patrolling their garrison, or hunters can have members of the Unseen Path patrolling their garrison. And so on. Also, with allied races becoming a newer thing, get the option to have nightborne or dark iron dwarves patrolling your garrison after you’ve unlocked them.
I always hated how we could never select the location of where we could build our garrison. Personally, I think it’d be too much if we were allowed to build literally -anywhere- we wanted (on top of a mountain, underwater, etc.), so I have to give Blizzard credit for that one. Instead of the way they did it, they should’ve given one-two spots per zone for you to build your garrison on Draenor. And then, when we return to Azeroth for Legion, we could build our garrison on the Broken Isles, Kalimdor, EK, Northrend, and Pandaria. And then eventually, with BFA, Kul Tiras and Zandalar. With the shipyard, I never cared for it, but maybe make one of the two spots by a shore where the shipyard could be. That is, if the region has a large body of water touching it (unlike Duskwood and Crystalsong Forest). Now, the two problems with this specific idea is that there may not be enough space for a garrison, with trees and rocks. Well, you remember when you first arrived in Frostfire Ridge/Shadowmoon Valley, and trees were still there? Have the doodads of per selected spot get deleted if you set your garrison there. They managed to do it for Frostwall and Lunarfall. The OTHER problem would be the excavation. But, perhaps with that, your garrison could be built near a wall of mountains, where an excavation could be added, or maybe the excavation would be set a little further away from the garrison.
Another thing I expected from the garrisons was the appearance of the structures. It would be AWESOME if we could change the appearance of some buildings in our garrison, instead of just human and orc designs. I can imagine it being: you would have to get exalted with the racial faction, go to some architect in their capital selling the blueprints for these buildings, and then voila. You have the option to change your inn to a troll hut and your barracks to some HM tauren building. They could also throw in some “cosmetic appearances”, where you could have destroyed/abandoned/burned buildings, broken draenei buildings, etc. I think that this would really break all of the garrisons apart, and make each one unique.
That would be the end of this topic. Again, I don’t expect this to come to the game, but it is definitely a dream of mine. I did this for no reason except for input from fellow roleplayers. Would you like to see something like this come to the game in the future? Do you have other ideas that sound waaaaay cooler than mine? Lemme know in the comments. <3
