So I’m totally new to RP servers, played wow since forever, but RP servers have never really been an interest to me until recently. I decided to roll here for the unique sharding and CRZ mechanics afforded to RP realms and I kind of want to see what RP and RP servers actually entails.
I’ve done light RP through GTARP which basically means I RPed myself as if I was in that world.
I’m kind of making this longer than it needs to be…
so anyway, does anyone stream quality RP content?

It’d be an interesting idea, but I’m not sure how the actual implementation for that would go. Most streams have a person, playing the game and providing commentary while they do so. RP tends to be a little more immersive. (In that you’re portraying your character, and trying to get into that character’s headspace, but all that action is going on in the game itself. Having a player streaming and providing commentary while they’re doing that sort of draws you out of what the character is doing and experiencing. I mean… It can be done.
There are plenty of good streams about tabletop RPG sessions, so it’s possible. But thats a slightly different format. I’d be curious to see how people would actually go about running an RP stream for a single character setup like playing WoW.

Yea, I’d imagine it’s pretty text based unlike GTA RP which is voice based and easy for an audience to follow along with.
I just thought there might be a viewer base for this also.
I would be very interested in watching and or participating in an RP stream. It sounds like a really good idea that could have multiple applications. maybe a daily/weekly show or even a scripted movie event. Can’t wait to see someone smarter than me put this idea to use. I’ll be watching for it.

I’m honestly kind of baffled there isn’t any popular RP streamers.
At least that we know about offhand.
There’s gotta be someone out there sharing their stories.
Roleplaying is a niche hobby within the gaming community and most WoW players don’t have the highest opinions of RPers, thanks to the Goldshire rep and the more silly concepts running around. In fact, most streams involving RPers are streamers missing with them, and their audience usually loves it. As a prior poster stated, RP is far more intimate and not exactly something that naturally invites mass spectators. Thus why RP streams don’t really take off, as some people have tried before but never quite took off.
I just kind of figured with GTARP being absolutely massive, there would be interest in other games RP scenes.
I do know what you mean about the uh, goldshire stuff being mocked and things like that.
I know that there’s got to be an audience for this stuff, there just needs to be the right person who’s charismatic and able to get involved in good storylines.
I’m going to look into this a little more when I get off work. There’s got to be something out there, feels like everyone streams everything nowadays.
Charisma and storylines only carry you so far when the content is basically just standing around and silently typing out emotes. It’s like streaming someone writing a book with WoW on in the background.
“Good storylines” don’t really hold up if the storyline is experienced over days, weeks, or months, while video game storylines can generally be completed and experienced over a 12 hour period of play. So you not only need a population of people who is invested in the current session, but also a population of people who want to look back at previous sessions in order to get all the facts of your story for it to actually make sense.
The only conceivable RP streaming I can think of for WoW is to piggyback off the recent popularity of D&D streaming and stream Roll20 events run by guilds and such. But then you find a new set of challenges, including facing a much larger market and higher degree of competition.
As the sometimes Twitch streamer I am (Albeit a speedrunner rather than RP), I can confirm there is interest in other games. The thing is, most of the games with interest tend to be those that are voice based. Stuff like Ark, RDR2, Garry’s Mod, Conan or Arma
Warcraft being text based just, doesn’t work with that

There was a YouTuber I used to follow called Inquistor Aura. Not necessarily streaming, but she would make videos about how to RP in World of Warcraft. She hasn’t been active for several years now, I think probably because engagement was low, but I also have thought RP streaming would be interesting if someone could figure out how to make quality content.
Here is a link to her videos if anyone is interested: https://www.youtube.com/c/InquisitorAura/videos
Another YouTuber I would tune into is someone who would go by Turwinkle, I know he used to make videos where he’d visit different severs (including Moon Guard) and interview guilds. He would even come to big events like Tournament of Ages and walk around, featuring players on his channel. I think he still actively posts, but not sure if he still does guild interviews as much as he used to. Also one of the closest to engaging with RP content for WoW:

There’s a YouTuber named Kakio who does record highlights of his RP. He’s the closest thing I can imagine to what you’re looking for. You can judge for yourself: https://youtu.be/2UwvHnWA_yQ
People have said it already, but RP streaming that doesn’t have a voice to voice element to it doesn’t translate well at all. It’s the reason that GTA RP and D&D streaming is popular, but there aren’t really any WoW RP streamers.
The closest you can get is probably PixelCat, and even then he usually just goes to Goldshire to gawk at people.
I stream WoW sometimes (and will likely next week for the new content), but I haven’t done any RP streams yet. If I can get a good plot going with some other players, I may consider it in the future.
I Stream on WRA and MG. It’s not easy since it’s mostly text based and it’s hard to talk to the viewers and write an emote. However, it goes fairly well most nights and it’s always fun to meet roleplayers who drop in my stream. Twitch: Wowroleplaying If you ever wanna swing by and see what I’m talking about.
The only redeeming factor would be someone’s personality and even then, it wouldn’t save a stream. RP is inherently boring to observe and only holds the attention of those actually invested in it. Just play and stream DnD if you want others to watch RP, it will never have a following on this game.
It’s doable as an old guild leader of mine on Classic did this. He dressed up and put on accents and jumped through hoops to make it work. But in order for it to happen there’s a level of detachment you need to carry with you. You aren’t going to really get that immersed feeling like you would doing it yourself.
I’d like to see a streamer dress up as a Dwarf, take on the personality of one behind the stream and then roleplay as that Dwarf.
“OH! THIS PERSON ROLEPLAYED AT ME! Ahh! I see they’re saying hello to little Dunhildr! Let’s just type back at them.”
That’d be funny.

As a lifelong dwarf player and an actor, I… I actually really like this idea.
Like a LOT.
