[RP-SERVER EVENT] Flames of War: Blackrock and Roll

The next Flames of War event is here!

Strife rages across Azeroth as the Horde and Alliance war continues to boil. With the devastation at Dazar’alor and the death of King Rastakhan, the Horde seeks to continue bolstering their forces as well as seeking new avenues of attack against the Alliance forces. Meanwhile, the Alliance seeks to bunker down and defend their fortifications in preparation for a key final assault that can hopefully decapitate the Horde leadership. While strife may roil internally, the two factions continue to clash as long abated tempers are stoked only higher.

These tensions now come to bare within a province that neighbors Stormwind itself, the long contested Dark Iron Dwarf kingdom. Having been officially brought into the Alliance, the uncontested domination of Alliance hold over the southern half of the continent must now be broken by the Horde, before the momentum is far too great to be halted.

Blackrock and Roll is here: a week-long Flames of War event chain wherein players will battle over control of various points of interest in the Searing Gorge - Blackrock Mountain - Burning Steppes area. The battles will take place June 2-8 (2019).

Working off the raised stakes from the previous Flames of War, Ghosts of the Past, Blackrock and Roll comes as a strike against a key chokepoint in the Eastern Kingdoms as both factions race to dominate the chokepoint.

A Call to Arms!

Attention all loyal members of the Grand Alliance! The Dark Iron need your aid. Long has our home, the mountain of Blackrock, been contested between all sorts of nefarious creatures. From the Black Dragonflight, to the Blackrock Clan, to even the Iron Horde, the Dark Iron nation has stood strong for decades to prevent the mighty mountain from falling into our enemies hands. Now as the Blood War rages across Azeroth and the Dark Irons have formally joined the Alliance, the need to establish full dominance over this key strategic point is absolute.

At one point this mountain stood as the Horde’s dominating spire against the might of the Alliance, a chokepoint over the fair Kingdom of Stormwind. Doubtless, Sylvanas will seek to relive past glories of the Horde in time. Already the remaining orcs within the spire chafe at any opportunity to strike at us, and it appears that there may be correspondance between these abandoned warriors and their insidious kin within Orgrimmar.

To answer this call, the Darkforged have been mustered by our Queen to clear out our home of these wretched creatures once and for all. We ask any and all members of the Alliance to answer this call and aid us with ending this problem before it can begin. This is not only important as it opens the door to restoring the lost secrets of the Dark Iron for the Alliance, but its defensive possibilities as well. To ensure safety before the Orcs conquer the pass, and before the Horde attempts to use this as leverage to harass not only our kingdom, but that of Khaz Modan and Stormwind as well.

By the Might of the Mountain. For the Alliance

SOLDIERS OF THE HORDE:

Lok’tar Ogar! The drums of war summon us to the front lines once more. The Dark Iron and their allies have desecrated Blackrock Mountain—the Horde’s rightful territory—for too long. They drill deeply and greedily into the core without regard for what they may disrupt—and even worse, they do so with the full intention of aiding the Boy King. The lives we have lost on Zandalar and Kul’Tiras will be for nothing if we allow the Alliance to continue forming new allegiances, recruiting new allies, and acquiring more resources while we are distracted.

There are still orcish remnants struggling for control of the mountain to this day. Kin of the Mag’har. They have fought on their own for too long. We must step in and defend their claim—support them however we can—until the last weak vestiges of Alliance infection have been flushed out from every pit and tunnel.

For the legacy of the Blackrock Clan! FOR THE HORDE!

Blood and Thunder,

Kasuka Grimhowl

Warcaller of the Ironstand

FACTIONS:

Introduced in this Flames of War are two factions to identify with.

Alliance: The Darkforged

Darkforged Crusaders marched under the leadership of Frida Ironbellows, proving their worth to the Alliance on the field of Dazar’alor. At home, however, the Darkforged are a group of militant Dark Iron seeking to preserve the worth of their kingdom within the Alliance. To that end, Moira has tasked them with purging the spire of beliggerants, so that the Dark Iron nation does not stand as a contested kingdom under the lion banner of the Alliance.

This has put them into direct conflict with the Ironstand, remnants of the Ironmarch, Dragonmaw, and Blackrock clans who have banded together to hold the city of Hordemar and the upper spire. This incursion must end, if the Dark Irons are to be able to confidently stand as their other dwarven cousins have without turmoil in their own home.

Horde: The Ironstand

Not all fell with Warlord Zaela after her methods were crushed, just as not all fell when Warchief Rend Blackhand was felled by soldiers of the Horde so many years prior. The remnants of the Ironmarch, the Iron Horde’s assault force, Zaela’s loyalist Dragonmaw, and the beleaguered Blackrock Clan remain within the mountain. All three factions, which had stood against the Horde at one point or another, have now all joined under the Horde’s banner, with Gorfax Angerfang’s Dragonmaw standing proudly, the Blackrock clan having retained their alliegeance they swore during Garrosh Hellscream, and the Iron Horde having come into the fold under the banner of the Mag’har.

Reaching out to these abandoned souls with this in mind, the Ironstand has cast off their tattered banner in favor of that of the Horde; seeking to finally reunite with distant kin and show worth within the mountain. Spearheading this are several Mag’har and Orc liaisons who will seek to bring these wayward clan orcs back into their home with the Horde. Not wanting to come empty handed, the Ironstand seeks to offer Blackrock Spire as tribute to the Horde; giving them a strategic strike point in the war against the Alliance.

Prisons

We’ll be allowing folks to be prisoners again with this campaign, though it will be handled differently than previous events. A small sub-campaign will follow prisoners within the Ring of Law and Blackhand’s Colosseum, as they fight their way to freedom. Unfortunately for our prisoners, the Dark Iron dwarves built some of the most impregnable prisons on Azeroth, and both factions have access to these mighty dwarven creations.

Torture and the like may not be pitted on these warrior’s souls, but they will need to prove their worth if they seek to live another day.

We may limit the amount of people in each prison, and the Discord will have channels for respective prisons inbetween events, so please do look out for that.

Alliance: The Ring of Law

Dark Iron law does not handle imprisonment the same as other nations, instead, the infractions of the person is levied against them within the Ring of Law, a monumental arena within Shadowforge City where the prisoners of the Dark Irons are pitted against monsters befitting their crimes.

Horde: Blackhand’s Colosseum

Amongst the orcs, many traditions exist that involve fighting to retain honor. None more so than the Mag’har’s Shattered Hand clan, who will be overseeing the prisoners within Blackhand’s Colosseum. This mighty pit will have the Alliance facing mighty beasts, disgraced warriors, and an assortment of creatures and enemies as they are faced with the prospect. To kill one hundred enemies and live, or to fall short and become another pile of bones within the colosseum.

Events and Times:

Day 1, June 2nd: Old Hatreds (Preparation)

The Alliance moves to reinforce the Dark Irons of Shadowforge City, setting up a war camp in the Masonary just outside the Blackrock Depths. The Alliance controls the lower half of the mountain, and have a steady supply line as long as they remain near Shadowforge; though outer perimeter is less contained.

Meanwhile, the Horde makes contact with the Ironstand. A faction of Ironmarch and Blackrock Clan survivors, they have been convinced to join the Horde by the Mag’har orcs, who bring word of what has transpired since the war with the Iron Horde; thus bringing the upper levels of the spire under Horde command.

At this point, unorganized skirmishes (RP) will occur as both sides clash along the sides of the spire; seeking to dominate over the dilapidated dwarven tunnels. Prologue RP will happen mostly, war councils and encouraging people to explore Blackrock and such.

Prepare for war.

Day 2, June 3nd: Defense System (D20)

The Ironstand has learned much during their stay in Azeroth. Primarily, they have learned of many tunnels that delve deep within the mountain; forgotten to each side. The Ironstand informs the Horde they have found a passage leading to a large golem repository, these Golems have not seen use in many years, and can be easily reprogrammed by the Ironstand engineers.

At the same time, this information makes its way to the Alliance by way of their spies, immediately setting the Darkforged to work against them. The last thing the Dark Irons need are their golems being hijacked by the Ironstand to be used against them.

A battle will erupt in the Forgeworks for supremacy over the golem manufactory, whatever side wins has better defensive capabilities than the other one as these ancient golems come to life to serve a new master.

June 4th, Day 3: Cauldron Control (D20)

Word arrives that Azerite has surfaced in the Cauldron, and the Alliance and Horde rush to control the area! The two factions will fight a series of battles for control of the four towers that oversee the Cauldron, with each tower certain to give strategic control of both the mining operations below and defense of the roads into and out of Blackrock from the north.

These battle groups will be separated up, the teams that have at least one person left standing will ‘control’ the tower; thus allowing for control over the Cauldron it’s self.

June 5th, Day 4: Echoes of the Tyrants (Free Day!)

With both factions licking their wounds, opportunity comes to explore and adventure in the heart of Blackrock Mountain. What mysteries lay in the Molten Core? In the forgotten dungeons? The infamous Blackwing Lair?

Considered a free day for participants to pursue storylines that they want to. One coordinator on each faction will put out a series of quests and bounties that can be self-DM’d by groups.

June 6th, Day 5: Battle of the Burning Road (D20)

With the battles in the Searing Gorge coming to a close, both factions turn their attentions to the south in Burning Steppes. Having occupied the town of Chiselgrip, the Darkforged wage war upon the clan orcs that still make their home within the villages that surround the mountain. The Ironstand marshals the Horde out to meet this threat, rallying the clan orcs together to push the dwarves back into Blackrock.

In the shadow of the statue of Anduin Lothar upon the Burning Road of Blackrock, the Alliance and Horde will clash once more, seeking dominance over the southern foothill.

June 7th, Day 6: Storm, Earth, and Fire(D20)

Seeking to cultivate the favor of the elements, the Ironstand has restored the nearby Altar of Storms. Sending a force, the Horde begins to invoke pure shamanistic energy through the once corrupted font to call upon the forces of the mountain.

Likewise, having found the Altar to be a potent force for their own incantations, the Alliance and the Dark Iron flamecallers move to oppose them, attempting to commune with the servants of the Firelands to bolster their armies.

As Deepholme and the Firelands rise against one another, only one faction will reign supreme over the elements of Blackrock.

June 8th, Day 7: Raging Hearts(D20)

With the clashes along the two provinces settled, the Horde and Alliance forces come to a final head within the mountain of Blackrock. The Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge now hold ther various claims, leaving the Spire as the lone point of contention with no further speculation.

One faction will come out dominant in the Spire, and while the other faction may still exist within the mountain, that stance may be tenuous. The Darkforged and Ironstand clash a final time to decide the fate of Blackrock.

FAQ:

How will you be handling sharding?

Since mid-way through Legion, sharding no longer affects the old world. As the events will all be held in Searing Gorge - Blackrock Mountain - Burning Steppes, this will not be an issue!

We’ve heard of some issues that have happened in recent events that have caused some minor phasing; but we will have measures in place in case it gets worse.

How will the battles be fought?

As a major shake up this time, Blackrock and Roll is purely RP. There will not be any RP-PvP that is coordinated by the event runners themselves, though if people want to organize small skirmishes on off time they’re welcome to do so.

Rules in Battles?

We will not be doing PvP for this event. As a result, just no cheating on your rolls.

Can I help coordinate?

If you are interested in becoming a coordinator for your faction, please inquire on the Flames of War discord with one of the pre-existing coordinators. We are currently not accepting more coordinators through any other means.

Is there a planning and communication medium?

Indeed, there is! We have a discord server up and running for those who wish to participate to coordinate with other guild leaders in. If you would like the link to the server, simply contact one of our coordinators.

Is this lore friendly?

It is yes. The orcs have never been confirmed to have been entirely rooted out, only defeated. As an example, the Blackrock Orcs were defeated in Vanilla WoW, but continued to live in the Spire up until Mists of Pandaria when Garrosh invited them into the Horde, even after they were defeated again in Cataclysm. It’s safe to assume, as a result, that there is still residual survivors within the mountain; especially when you look in the actual dungeon it’s self and see that there are also Black Dragonflight refugees hiding in Hordemar.

As for the Dark Irons and any interaction with Thorium Brotherhood settlements, Hansel Heavyhands (A Thorium Brotherhood leader) was seen as an Alliance character in WoD. Presumably, as a result, they favor the Alliance if they haven’t fully rejoined already now that Ragnaros isn’t an issue anymore.

I’m killing this guy first.

I remember when I was writing my fanfiction and I was like, “Also, we should ally with the dark irons against the blackrock orcs. We have a mutual enemy and surely they have political infighting with not all the dark irons loving that they are slaves to fire elementals.”

They told me I was crazy. They said dark irons are boring cartoon villains with big twirling mustaches. They said a lot of things.

Well, who is laughing now?
