RP Realm Rules!

I was forced into a name change yesterday, which caused me to lose a name that I really enjoyed and an entire month of sub ( I re-subbed back in august just to get the name for classic, despite the fact that I don’t play retail.)
My toons are on Grobbulus, as that’s the realm my friends chose and what’s WoW if you’re not playing it with your buddies?
Anyway, after a lengthy discussing with a Game Master, they highly recommended that I bring my suggestion to the Forums in an attempt to see it brought to fruition.

For those whom are unware ( much like I was) there’s actually a set of rules that must be followed, when naming a character on an RP or RPPVP sever, if these rules are not abided by Blizzard will enforce them and levy a forced name change. After 2 forced name changes your account will be suspended as followed.

This was my first time ever playing on an “RP” server of sorts and honestly had no idea that the follow rules even existed!

" World of Warcraft Role Play (RP) servers are intended to provide players with an added level of immersion in the game world. Names on RP servers must adhere to Blizzard’s Code of Conduct, and also must avoid being disruptive to the world.

Examples of common unacceptable or disruptive RP names include (but are not limited to):

  • Non-medieval or non-fantasy names (For example: Slipnslide, Robotman, Technotron)
  • Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)
  • Names that consist of multiple words (For example: Inyourface, Welovebeef, Howareyou, Sixtyseventy)

Blizzard reserves the right to assign a random name to any character violating our RP naming policy. For more severe or repeat violations, we may apply additional penalties to the account."

What I would ideally like to see, if for Blizz to alter the character creation screen on RP and RPPvP servers. So that both new and returning players whom have never played on an “RP” Server will be aware that it is a completely different set of rules from every other server, and that those rules will be actively enforced.

It’s also worth noting that personally took a look at the names of all the level 60 Alliance on Grobbulus and at least 20% do not abide by these rules, as I assume they don’t know that they exist. I’m assuming they’ll all be struck with mandatory name changes, much like myself. This is extremely frustrating, especially when you add players by their in game name and not Bnet, as not everyone wants all of Azeroth to know their Irl name.

Thank you for reading, and I sincerely hope to see these changes implemented for the betterment of the community. :]

Idk man.

I like goofy names. Trp allows people to have fun with their characters.

I’ve had my fair share of whack names on RP realms and never got name-changed for it.

It’s a non-problem.

Edit: To make myself clear.

Trp is a wonderful tool that allows you to create and write your RP character. In most cases, it makes your actual character name completely obsolete.

I had a rogue named “Chknleg” for years. His TRP was totally different and had nothing to do with chicken legs.

I agree.

I’ve noticed a trend of PvP only players who roll on RP-PvP realms thinking its less RP. When in reality, RP-PvP realms have some of the strongest RP communities.

Quoting this for people who dont read the OP

I agree with this, it should be made clear when rolling on an RP server that there are extra rules to be followed and the ideal place to inform people of this is the character creation screen.

My Warlocks name was Treefiddy, and I had an entire backstory for him related to my guild BlackRock mafia, which was written in TRP.
I’d also joke that I was the Lockness Monster, and when someone would ask for a summon I’d respond with " Imma need about Treefiddy". I had fun with it, the community loved it. However it was deemed a Violation of the rules. That’s why I’ve gone so far as to try and rally for change.

It’s not a non-problem for the OP, since:

It’s extremely frustrating considering I wasted a month of Sub for a name, that just ended up getting taken from me. So… I may as well have set that $20 on fire :stuck_out_tongue:

…what was the name? O.o

Yes, RP realms do rule!

But out of curiosity, what was the name? Sometimes people have really non rp names but don’t realize it (or do know but hope it slips under the radar)

The name was Treefiddy, Though based on my understanding of the rules, you name would also be a violation as VodiaNova can be read as separate words.

Highly unlikely as my name is an actual name.

I’ll be honest, for the last 15 years, if I see a name that egregiously breaks the RP ruleset I will report them.

I only play on RP servers, and even if I no longer socialize much, I can’t stand seeing RP greifers on RP servers.

ie Emerald Dream.

So because I simply was unaware of the rules, that makes me a griefer?

Actually a reminder on the character creation screen is a very good idea.

I think there are probably more name violations on classic servers because people were rolling on any server they could find with low or no queue times and have no interest in RP at all.

Well that’s not an RP name. Thats a slang/slurred way to say Three Fifty. It’s not surprising you got reported by people for it.

I do agree with an earlier post though, those naming rules should be part of character creation on rp servers so people don’t be taken by surprise like this.

I’d be okay with this! It’s a good way for people to know there is a naming policy that’s entirely different for RP realms.

TRP only changes the tooltips, not the nameplates. If you enjoy silly names, that’s great! But there are plenty of other realms for that.

People wish I was on an RP realm so they could report this name.

Depends, what was this name? I’ll be honest Mêrlin comes close to breaking the ruleset, however since it’s a title given to IRL druids, it’s not a name I would report.

However there are plenty of names out there which should never be used on a RP realm, and I will report if I see it.

I would only report a name that was clearly offensive, and I would report it whether it was on an RP or normal server.

But that said, it is rarely an issue. Most people will only report you when your behavior is really annoying but not necessarily rule-breaking. People have gone for years with non-rp names with no issue because they’re friendly sorts.
