So, I was thinking about this for a couple of reasons, figured I’d ask other people about it.
Void elves: How do you RP your Void abilities? I mean…I don’t mean the Entropic Embrace thing. I mean just random, miscellaneous things.
I can’t be alone in doing that. Vanaelia will sometimes listen to something when talking to people; which, as I’m typing, is not what I meant. Here’s an example.
If Vanaelia starts getting angry, tiny little rifts and such in space start appearing around her. She can’t read minds or anything, but she can sometimes hear if someone’s going through some of the more extreme emotions associated with the Void, the fear, the panic, the confusion. And with direct contact and a considerable expenditure of energy, she can take someone’s pain or fear or whatever away and take it up herself.
During a particular tense situation, very faint reality warping things. In this case, all the color started draining from a wooden crate. Little things like that.
Cosmetically, she might just use it to subtly put on make-up.
I’m curious to hear how other Void Elves roleplay this treasure trove of potential. There’s no right or wrong answer, I’m just honestly curious.
Theres a tentical hair option for void elves which my character uses. Whenever she has a emotion they act accordingly.
Im not saying shes full medusa but for example maybe when shes mad her hair frills up? Maybe they coil when she gets cold?
I also use this for my dreanei characters too. so i just basically lifted it from there.
My void elf also for convenience sake just has a pocket rift she can summon to store items. carting around 90 candles is a bit ridiculous but a warlock without there tools isnt even a warlock at all.
I would treat it like I do my Worgen when he is in human form in a way.
He can usually keep it under control, but when something stressful or tense is happening he turns back.
With a Void Elf I’d imagination hearing faint whispers, or the tendrils on their hair acting up. The Entropic Embrace I think could be played into that as well, when emotions are high.
I’m thinking of that, too. And I really wish they gave us the “Two Forms” option to shift to Void form, or whatever it’s called.
Do you mean other people hearing faint whispers? That’s something I could get behind. With Vanaelia, I imagine it’s less hearing more whispers and more screwing with things around her that she wouldn’t immediately see.
Like, if she saw her hair moving, then she’d calm down. But if she couldn’t see that reality’s warping around her, then she wouldn’t know to stop. And other people start reacting, she sees them freaking out, thinks ‘your friends will abandon you’ and gets defensive, and they get worked up, and you’ve got a feedback loop.
That’s how it goes in my head, anyway.
I was going to make a playfully snide comment like “well, of course, says the vulpera”, then I remembered that high elf ears aren’t exactly small.
I have this thing with my Void Elf wherein her hair is a living thing; able to move like a prehensile appendage.
I cannot stress enough that it’s not supposed to be tentacles. It was also an additional change that happened after the transformation as part of her studies, rather than as part of the initial transformation itself.
Vanaelia, explaining it to someone: No, darling, these are not tentacles. These are tendrils. It’s a way to exhibit mastery over these abilities. It also infuriates the whispers, which makes them considerably easier to deal with. It can serve as a warning to others that I might be losing control, so it also has that function.
Most importantly, darling, understand that I am still an elf. I know how to accessorize. And I’m using the Void to do it.
If Mal’valen gets particularly upset over something - and this is at least partially due to being a Priest - he’ll go into Shadow/Void form instinctually and “wings” of shadow will sprout from his back (think Diablo angel wings, but made of Void magic). Being undead, he’s normally immune to the whispers, but he’ll start to notice them if his emotions grow particularly unstable.
The void has certainly affected Mahli’ficia in some ways. Some of the minor ones are:
Light Sensitivity. She despises bright light, and is also more prone to sunburns.
Cold Resistance. Ever since her void corruption, she has been less affected by the cold. This means she will walk around in summer clothes even in the middle of winter while others may be huddling in heavy fur coats.
Dark vision: The touch of the void has granted her the ability to see in the dark, which means if she’s by her own she may work in near or even complete darkness.
As you can perhaps imagine, she would loathe any desert adventure. And yes, her ponytail does move as if possessing a mind of its own, but it has only ever tried to strangle someone once. Or perhaps twice.
That has to be annoying. Going from praising the sun to always needing SPF 30.
I play Vanaelia as kind of the same, except she’s a lot less bothered by a lot of things. If she’s cold, she just decides to be not cold. Ditto with hot, sometimes. Depending on degree.
I like it. I play Vanaelia as just not needing eyes to see.
But these are great. Everyone. Like I said, I always liked the idea of those non-specific Void things.
