Hello everyone! With everything going down on the Horde, I imagine there might be some people having enough, and wanting to defect, and one of my blood elves is one of them. I’ve been considering rolling a void elf alt as a belf, but I’m not really sure how to integrate them into the Alliance, or if it’s even possible.
There’s a quest in WoD that shows there are defectors on both sides. Unfortunately I can’t quite configure a satisfying means of incorporating that efficiently. There are a couple of things that come to mind that might be good to consider:
Ways the individual might have contacted the opposite faction
The circumstances of the defection; perhaps an offering of valuable information in exchange for safe harbor.
One alternative I can think of is coming from a neutral faction, such as the Argent Crusade. At that point you’d simply be choosing a side rather than switching sides. It might also provide a reason to be already familiar with Alliance territories, perhaps having served as an envoy ambassador or emissary prior.
My biggest concern is the matter of opposite faction races in the city. Unlike say ESO, where members of every race can be found in nearly any city despite the factions, the populations of the cities and settlements in WoW are often only populated those peoples who’re part of the affiliated faction; with the obvious exception of neutral cities. The aforementioned WoD quests are of no help in this matter as the defectors in question still appeared to serve their original factions until revealed.
I think it’s very possible, and blood elves are probably going to have an easier time of it than say a troll or orc. Assuming you don’t turn to the void though (ie, stay a blood elf IC despite a velf model) there’s a few things to consider.
First and foremost–you still look suspicious. Alliance citizens will be wary, and understandably so. If you have golden eyes, or use illusion magic, you may pass as a high elf, though skilled mages will see through an illusion.
Second–you probably don’t have many friends, and until you earn the people’s trust it’ll be hard to make more.
None of this means you can’t or shouldn’t run with the concept though. You just need to keep in mind the extra challenges and have a response when people come asking (and ask they will). Perhaps you’re always with a trusted friend or two when out and about, or have a signed waiver to present to the guards when out alone. Wearing Alliance colors can help you settle in to your new home. Folks may still raise eyebrows but Alliance friends should help put them at ease, and on the offchance you are taken downtown the paperwork should help clear up confusion.
I plan on RPing this toon as a defector or at least not working with the Horde as long as Sylvanas is still Warchief. I have a long-standing RP that my wife is Alliance and that we focused on neutral factions as much as we could.
