RP Info - trying to jump back into the game!

Hello all.

I am a 20 year player, and I just want to start with a clean slate. RP is a fun adventure, and I just want to level and create stories and character arcs with someone and play the game. I am tired of the cycle of hatred (novel reference) I have created with the end game, and I just wanna get back into RP, which is the part that I enjoy the most.

so first off,

  1. is there an RP discord server for wow? I know with cross realm guilds, surely things have started to evolve in that regard. I am aware that each realm has their own respective ones.

  2. is the guild recruitment pages still a good place to look in the forums?

I am completely uninterested in doing RP that is not lore abiding. I don’t want it to be politically or IRL impacted. I just want to make it make sense and build and write character pages for it, and keep track of the character. I am more horde oriented, but I love the dwarves and gnomes too!

I am down to level classically or retail, although using the leveling pathway that lets you stay in certain content might make the most sense.

I am not sure if i can post my discord name or not, but I am happy to add my self to a discord to discuss with anyone! I am hoping that actual RP is not dead, and that maybe the game is moving along well!

Also if there are certain places that are great for open RP, please let me know. I know the usual suspects of Stormwind on MG, and Orgimmar and Silvermoon for WRA/ED.

Welcome back, to hit the big points

I am unaware of any overarching RP discord, though there are several event, sever, coalition, nation/race, and guild servers that are up and active. Generally looking through some realm forms (particularly WrA and MG) will get you there.

I’ve never used the guild recruitment forum, but by the looks of it its primarily content focused. Your best bet, again, would be the server forums for MG and WrA. Both servers also put on guild fairs and events in game.

Most guilds tend to be generally lore abiding. Some may bend more than others, but overall stick to what we’re given and build on it from there or fill missing gaps.

I’m sure by political or IRL you’re not looking for anything too overt, and most groups have that general rule or guideline. I will say, just as a general note for all media, we are not divorced from politics and the happenings of the world. The people we play with, those who make the game and develop the world we exist in, all exist outside of the computer with their own understandings, knowledge, experience, and upbringing. Its hard to play, for example, a tauren and not have to engage with the reductionist stereotypes of North American indigenous folks used in their creation. Aint no one going to let a tauren get away with doing a “tomahawk chop.” Just a general awareness that we’ve all, more or less, moved on from potentially the last time you RP’d.

Lastly, you’ll find no shortage of guilds to join for Horde or the vertically challenged. WRA tends to be the Horde server and has a larger pool to pull from, but MG also has dedicated and great Horde side guilds to join and play with. Looking around the forums, again, would be a great start while also seeing what you want to play or main. Similarly, MG tends to be the Alliance server, but WrA also has dedicated Alliance guilds as well. Lastly lastly, with cross server tech you can join a guild on MG from ED, or vice versa, it may just be a bit more difficult to see them in the open world without a party invite.

I’d throw a list of guilds out there but too many to find and don’t want to leave anyone out. Hope it all helps and happy hunting.
