RP in Classic?

Hi.

What chance will there be for an RP community to develop on the Classic servers? How would I find out if that happens?

It is very likely that there will be at least one RP-tagged server, which I assume will be the primary hub of the RP community in Classic.

Pretty much no RP on anything but a specifically-designated RP server.

I donā€™t recall any specific mention of an RP-PVE server, but it was implied that there will be at least one.

Now we just need to get Blizzard to realize one of the PVP servers should be tagged RP-PVP. For the Herd!!!

Blizzard has said they think RP-PvP is ā€œtoo nicheā€, but they havenā€™t denied a RP-PvE one.

Iā€™d like to play on a RP server this time around. Preferably a PvP one, but iā€™ll make do with a PvE one if I have to.

This right here, we can pretty safely assume that there will be plain RP realms. So itā€™s almost assured weā€™ll have atleast one or two with dedicated RP communities comparable to Wyrmrest and Moonguard.

Iā€™m here specifically for Vanilla-era RP, and thereā€™s plenty of folks who are showing interest.

In the last Q&A (I think it was the last one anyway), they stated there would be: normal, PvP, and RP servers, but that RP-PvP was too niche.

RP has never been stronger in Retail than it was during Vanilla.

Hello all, i didnt play in vanilla but im an avid role player. I was wondering what about vanilla rp is different from retail? I am under the assumption that retail rp is easier to get into and better, due to stuff like transmog and addons. Thanks for any feedback

There will likely be very little difference. Hardcore RP (people developing sustained storylines) will continue to be a niche thing. A very small percentage of the population will do this, but they will always be welcoming of players to join this, no matter how experienced or not someone is with RP.

Most of the RP will be casual- random encounters at Inns or Taverns. Thereā€™s always people in certain locations (usually the mage district inn for alliance or silvermoon inn for horde in retail) to interact with. Vanilla will have these casual hubs too.

Mm. I donā€™t agree. Having been around the block and knowing a lot of people from the past. Most would agree Retail is much better for RP. That being said Iā€™m still excited to step into the past and explore a different character.

My goal is to treat it as an alternate Universe, since itā€™s kind of stuck in that time-zone. Yā€™kno.

I mean that back in Vanilla, people actually RPā€™d for RPing. Not ERPing. When the Knights of the Black Hand marched through SW in ranks before they headed off to a raid etc. Now the majority of RP is in rooms in the Goldshire Inn, or off in secluded places.

No-one in Boralus General on RP servers cares about RP, and its no better than the PVE servers. No more are there people shouting down the people bring RL into the game.

I say that it was never stronger than in Vanilla, because in Vanilla, RP realms were held in RP by a large portion of the community, and those who didnā€™t respected their choice. Now even on RP servers, RPing outside of private areas is pretty much laughed at by the populace.

Ah, ok. Thatā€™s fair. There are definitely less people who enforce ā€˜the rulesā€™ of an RP server and general is a lot less. General chat wasnā€™t that great to begin with, nor was trade. Anyway, most RP Isnā€™t done in Goldshire. There are lots of fantastic guilds doing events and the main cities (Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Silvermoon) still host a lot of walk-up RP.

But there is a different feel, I can agree with that. The reason thereā€™s no real RP In Boralus though is because of CRZ. There isnā€™t that in the older zones on RP Servers.

Yeah, no. Goldshire was a thing in Vanilla. Argent Dawn had ā€œGoldshire Guildsā€ which did exactly what they do in Retail.

In fact, the majority of Vanilla trolling was about people getting found ERPing in secluded places, like in the middle of the Deeprun Tram.

I donā€™t know what circles you roleplayed with on MG or WrA, but Iā€™ve never seen more RP than I have in Retail. Vanilla had roleplaying, but they rarely interacted as groups or put any thought into storylines.

You mean in BfA? They must be pretty good at hiding it then.

Maybe it was different on my vanilla rp server (Thorium Brotherhood), but I donā€™t remember Goldshire or erping being much of a thing at all.

I played on MG since day one. Goldshire was not a huge deal at first. People congregated there, but we werenā€™t known as being the erp hub until many xpacs later. There were definitely popular erp guilds as early as TBC like Jeanneā€™s Pet, which was a sub/dom guild, but those guilds were niche.

You know there will be a community formed RP server even if there isnā€™t an official one. Shouldnā€™t be too hard to find out, people will post about it.
