Where does most of the public RP happen around this server? I’ve heard this realm is very vibrant, but perhaps I keep going to the wrong places to see it for myself. Can you guys help someone new to the place find out where the storytelling goes on? All the people I’ve spoken to so far have just told me -not- to go to SMC, which isn’t very helpful.
The Valley of Honor is where all the RP tends to coagulate.
As for storytelling;
Oy, this again. There’s this completely baseless notion that some people LOVE to spread, that SMC is home to only the worst of RP. They’ll tell you everyone there is a creep, or a bad RPer, and so forth. Usually what this means is “it’s an elf place and I don’t like elves or people who play elves”. So disregard that please. On Horde, SMC is a huge RP hotspot. You also wanna check out Orgrimmar, both the Valley of Honor, and Valley of Heroes. Although the former will be more populated most times.
If you’re not finding any there, you’re likely going at less popular play times, because I assure you, a large portion of the day and night, those places are packed. You’ll also find a fair amount of RP out in the world, believe it or not. The Northern Barrens, Mulgore, Tirisfal, and Silverpine being places I see a lot of people role playing.
If you play Alliance, I’d be happy to help you find some places on blue side as well.
I didn’t agree with the notion and I’m sorry if it came off that way. I just noted that talking to people in game usually got me that response, and telling someone where not to go, put simply, is the opposite of telling them where they -should- go which is what I was hoping for. I have no problem with elves and personally I think they have one of the most fleshed out and diverse lores of all the races. Thank you for your help, this is exactly the type of answer I was looking for and I appreciate it very much.
I guess my next question is, what do you see as “popular times”?
Oh no not at all! I was just annoyed that someone was feeding you pretty blatantly false information. You’re not the first to be misled about SMC.
I would say I see a lot of activity at 4 PM server time, well into 11 PM, depending on the day of the week. Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular obviously but I see a decent amount in those times all week long.
Another thing, at least with SMC is to turn warmode off. On my blood elf, I kept wondering why SMC was empty and someone advised me to turn it off. After that the place was always packed with people RPing.
Not gonna lie, I keep forgetting that’s a thing. So yeah, turn war mode off. In Orgrimmar and Stormwind it won’t matter but everywhere else, you’re not gonna see a lot of public RP in war mode.
Oh yeah, this is a huge point, having warmode on will drastically decrease your chances of stumbling upon RP in the world.
TRP2 has a neat feature where you can scan zones to see if other people with TRP2 are in the area, which may help lead to spontaneous RP.
For Horde, you’ll also have the best luck finding RP if you’re in an RP guild. You can also look at different Discords for RP event listings.
SMC is a different dynamic if you aren’t a blood elf. It’s a lot of fun actually.
