Router problem?

Came home a couple of days ago and internet was running extremely slow, like old dial up slow, when it lasted two days I started to look for problems, traded out my router for a old backup and it was running normally , so I bought a new router and set it up, and it is still doing the same thing, very slow internet , but I go back to the backup and it runs fine.

I am not extremely tech savvy, but I think I understand the basics, I doubt the the new router is bad out of the box and doing the same thing the old one is.

Anyone maybe have some idea what may be going on here ?

I’m doing to need some more information first:

  • The make and model of your routers and network adapters so I can get a gist out of the specs
  • How are you connected to them (WiFi vs ethernet)
  • Whether you tried updating the firmware
  • Router settings (I learned your bandwidth takes a hit when you use router settings like QoS for faster connections)
