Rolling warrior, looking for a levelling friendly build that allows tanking dungeons

Hey there!

So I just started classic, and was browsing the internet for builds and guides. While I can find tons of talent postings of what to use at 60 for different prot related builds, I can’t seem to find any guides breaking down what to grab while levelling.

I want to still be able to run around and quest without hindering my own damage output, but I also want to be able to slap on a shield and tank any relevant dungeons at will.

Is anyone with experience in levelling and tanking as mainly fury or arms able to share a talent progression for early levels? Should I just grab talents that increase damage output? or like, is it also viable to get stuff like parry from arms.

Poor talent choices can quickly break the bank for a new account, so I want to make sure I am optimizing my talent point spending right off the hop.

Cheers <3

Hey! Just pick a tree and slowly work for it:) I’m going with the offensive tank build! Which is in Icey veins(it’s actually a little off the fury tree, so I’m dumping the rest into arms so I can get the charge+Rage).

I honestly just did 1 in fury and then next level did 1 in prot etc. till I got close to finishing my fury side of the things then I finished that up!

Just pick a tree and go for it! See what benefits you at the time!

You can totally tank in fury spec or arms up until ZF then the difference would really show’

EDIT:I MEAN the fury spec is off on Icey veins

Don’t just pick a tree and go all Willy nilly. There are specs designed to do just what you’re asking while you level. I’m sure some warrior players will comment.

Avoid prot warrior like the plague and pick between either fury or arms. I personally like arms because of tactical mastery which reduces rage lost (usually 100% loss) when switching stances which is something you will find yourself doing very often, also grabbing anger management which reduces rage lost between pulls and also giving a hidden 1 rage every 3 seconds in combat. The bonus parry chance just adds more to the already awesome talent tree arms has to offer early on which makes tanking way more clean (can choose from 2H tanking or sword and board personally 2H tanking is better imo). Fury offers some pretty mediocre talents until later on in the tree but the bonus crit early on is nothing to laugh at check out the rest to see if you value it more over the rest possibly. Arms ftw imo.

Yeah mostly what I’m looking for. While it seems fun and dandy to pick what sounds right, it could be wrong. I’d love a bit more insight from multiple warriors.

The spec you’re looking for is Arms (MS).

Arms is the generally recommended leveling build, due to its consistency and flexibility when dealing with World PvP, as well as the raw power of Sweeping Strikes during leveling.

Edit: agree with Communism above, Tactical Mastery is really good for when you want to swap stances quickly and keep your rage. This is extremely beneficial for both soloing and tanking.

Unable to include links in my posts, but I am trying to link the WoW Classic Arms Warrior Leveling Guide 1-60 from IcyVeins. Literally exactly what you’re asking for, tells you what to put where for each level.

And I’ve been using the build and it works great for soloing, World PvP, and tanking dungeons.

Very cool. Which server, and faction? If you’re rolling Horde on Faerlina, I’ve recently rerolled, and would be happy to level with someone.

I put together a Classic WoW warrior tanking guide a while back that you may find useful. I’d love any feedback on it that you might have.

As for the build, you’ve got a lot of options, and while some people do choose to level specc’ing deep prot, most go with an Arms or Fury build, with Arms seemingly being more popular, or at least recommended on guides from WoWHead and Icyveins.

Personally, I really like Arms, thanks to Sweeping Strikes and Mortal Strike, which are a lot of fun while leveling, and in instances, and also for PVP.

Cheers! That was a wonderful read, thank you.

As for me, I am on Ashkandi, a PvE realm.

While I like PVP, I’m more into it in controlled settings. Wanted a smooth trip while levelling.

Also, even if I didn’t mind world PVP, iunno if I would be excited or annoyed being on the main streamer heavy realm :P.

For real though, thank you for that link.

Go with Arms or Fury.
Arms gives tactical mastery which is great for tanking due to stance dancing.
Fury gives rage generation and more damage overall.

I think you can do pretty much whatever you want, but if you want an easier time in dungeons, then do the dungeon when all the quests are yellow or green.

basically you can go for any spec that isn’t retarded and tank dungeons just fine

also, prot does actually work for tanking dungeons, especially if you charge, dshout, and then dstance before the first autoattack, or instead after if you’re using rank 1 charge
then at level 30, when your rage is below 5, you can quickly hit zerk stance, hit zerk rage, then swap right back to dstance all in the span of 1 second, and then your rage income from damage taken will drastically increase

just don’t try tanking a spellcleave or melee cleave run if you’re new to tanking; avoid those like the plague

I’m in your shoes. When I asked around, I was told to avoid prot and go arms. Arms is seen as easier to level because the rage flow is more predictable than fury. Plus, you have to get a lot of hit before you stop missing on Fury.

But,

Don’t let anyone tell you what to play if you don’t want to play a particular spec. If you like Fury, dive right on in!

Until you start raiding you can do this as a Fury Warrior with points in Arms, or any other DPS spec that tickles your fancy. I’m primarily Fury and working on my Arms tree now and have no issues if the group is well-behaved.

If you want a spec that lets you hold threat in a Retail group, well… good luck with that.

The great thing about being a Warrior is you can tank dungeons with any build. Sure, some builds are better than others, but you shouldn’t have any problems tanking with even the builds that are the worst for tanking because you get most of your tanking ability baseline with your class.

Level first aid to 150 asap. Heavy wool bandages.

Go tank and just grind out lvls till you can do ragefire chasm as horde or deadmines as alliance.

Prioritize green mobs and green quests. Never do yellow or orange quests. Out level zones not to the point that they are grey, but so that they stay green.
