I'm really interested in Druid. They seem incredibly flexible and convenient with all their shapeshifts. But I'm hesitant to try maining one for one reason - transmog. I'm a transmog junkie, I love collecting new appearances and I mix up my look almost every day.
As far as I know, only Restoration druids really get to show off their transmog, though Balance druids *kind of* can but in a translucent blue form.
So I have a couple questions!
1. Are there any 'workarounds' for showing off your transmog as Guardian or Feral? Specific toys, potions, and such? I remember during WOD there was a potion that changed you to the opposite gender for a short time and bear/cat druids could use that to appear humanoid while in those forms. I don't know if it still works though. Also, along the same lines, is there a way to be balance without the blue translucent effect?
2. More generally, do you guys and gals feel that the reduced transmogability of druids is worth putting up with? Does the flexibility and uniqueness of the class make up for it?
Thanks for reading!
Hell yeah it does. Open world mobility is unmatched. Having caster and melee spec is great and all 4 specs share enough abilities (particularly with affinity talents) that it is actually fairly easy swapping specs.
I've have had a druid since early MoP but have not mained one until now and im really !@#$ing choked it took me so long to come around.
Answer #2 is what the nelf above me said. I've been maining feral since TBC (My first character was a feral druid), yet I stopped playing feral in late WoD (boomkin), then in late Legion, I picked up feral again.
#2) depends. the legion artifacts do a lot for giving flavor to the forms but they can get old after a while and you will be seeing them a lot - if you don't like doing old content to farm out the different forms then I would say this is a no
there’s also the issue of needing to use two charges for every swap, but you can get around it—if your party member doesn’t mind also looking like you. basically you swap your appearance to them, right-click on your buff to get rid of it, and swap again so you both have your humanoid appearance. then you can simply swap a single time every (slightly less than) 5 minutes, to keep both buffs going
The base Moonkin form is not the astral form effect, that comes from a glyph. You can leave that glyph off, and just be a chicken.
I look at Druid forms as a cost-savings feature. I can spend $1k/week for my priest transmogs (I don’t have a problem, you have a problem). But, I spend nothing on my Druid because looking like a hobo out of forms just makes me always stay in a form.
Druid is my favorite class, but if its transmog you are after, I would pick something else. Unless you want to play resto, you are going to be looking at forms 90% of the time or a blueberry if you go non moonkin form.
Druids easily have the best transmogs in the game. I play many characters and my Druid is my favourite to dress up. Lock being a close second. Each of my four specs have a different unique transmog to them.
My Bear spec has a bear theme, my Feral spec has a “predator” theme with bones and skulls (As if it adorns itself in it’s kills)
My Boomkin spec I use the blue bird set from… Tier 11?
And then my Resto spec I use a variety of different transmogs depending on the day. lol. One day I might have the Ulduar set, another day I’ll use my T3/7, or some times I’ll change it up and put on the mushroom set. They’re all based around nature and healing.
Yes, during combat you’ll be restricted to looking at a bear’s butt, or the back of a cat, or a dumb looking fat chicken. But out of combat. Running around the world Ect… You’ll look fabulous! And isn’t that what this game is all about? The better you look the better you’ll do in that raid.

Im actually not sure about guardian or feral so I will defer to what others have said about prisims and such. I’ve been a druid main since 2007 and really only used balance until around Cata when I picked up resto. Unfortunately there is no way around the blue effect (which I’m sick of), but moonkin form is so much worse. You don’t get to show off your armor and back in Wotlk when the raid got a moonkin buff, if you switched out of it, even out of combat you got yelled at lmao.

Im not sure I guess it depends on the player and how you like the armor apperances available to you. I only play resto and balance (with glyph if stars) anyway so I don’t know about the other 2 classes. I just remember being glad that I didn’t have to be in tree of life or moonkin form all the time.
This isn’t entirely untrue. Our sets are either a hit or a BIG MISS! The one I’m currently wearing is a huge hit though and looks amazing with the resto mage tower staff in purple. I would say go through the apperances available to druids and try and get those our even mix and match certain ones. Personally I like to look very nature inspired so I usually end of finding creative mixes with transmogs. It’s fun if you can get into it.

No workarounds. There are a few toys that can make your cat or bear form be a humanoid for a limited duration, but it isn’t permanent and usually the animations are extremely limited since Guardian/Feral animations don’t have a humanoid counterpart.

You roll Druid for the fantasy aspect of becoming an animal to attack or defend; It’s part of the “class fantasy”. Also, Legion introduced a bunch of new cat/bear forms to use albeit some of them are kind of hard to obtain and some are flat-out unobtainable. There isn’t as nearly Cat/Bear forms as there is transmoggable gear, but I do enjoy being a Druid. I do wish Blizzard would add more unique Cat/Bear and even Moonkin forms though.
