I was out in the world questing in Tanaris, this warlock came up and said bruh, we roll in classic. I clearly got to the chest first. My friend thinks I should have rolled for it. I feel that in open world it is free for all. I got to the chest first and was not in combat, so I got it. If I was in a group doing group content, I agree that you should roll. I was clearly there first and out of combat, so I took it. Am I in the right or should I have rolled for it?

Open world? If you cleared the chest then it’s yours by right imo. If he wasn’t in gro then he had no claim on it and was just greedy. It’s the same for world herbs and mining, if you clear them then they are yours 100%. Your friends are wrong. You were right. In dungeons its the opposite. If you take it, you’re a ninja n deserve a boot.

depends on the circumstances. IF you both see the chest, and you don’t see eachother, and both try to go for it, first come first serve.
If buddy is killing mobs around the chest so as too loot it, and you come up and shark that lewt while he is clearing, thats not cool.
in group, roll.

This. You dont roll for mobs or nodes so chest is just whoever gets to it first.

Eh, wouldn’t call that a ninja since he wasn’t in a group with the guy, and there is no guarantee of anything useful being in the chest. I think your argument would have more ground to stand on if the guy was trying to open the chest but was attacked by a mob before he could do so.
I was killing the last mob when someone grabbed a chest today. I was irritated at first, but then i realized I’ve probably looted 30 already… and i got over it

I ninja looted a chest only once. It was in the vile reef, and only reason i did it was because i was swimming around getting blue pearls and got ganked by a spriest and a mage was right there and didnt even try to help. I saw him taking on a murloc by a chest and just took it out of spite.
A hunter pulled an NPC that my group clearly tagged. The NPC ran after him while we laughed and watched him get beat up. Because the NPC was grey (not tagged), the Hunter didn’t want to fight it and almost died running in circles.
He called us “fags” then proceeded to blame us saying that we feared the mob onto him.
I replied, “that’s not possible, especially since none of us have fear”
Then he’s like, “Well then how did that happen”
i replied, “Typical Huntard… You pulled him… L2P”
