Outlaw Rogues: “Hey, Blizz, RtB feels really bad because we have to constantly reroll crap buffs so we’re not losing out on like 25% of our DPS. Can you fix this?”
Blizz: “You want RtB to be reworked so you don’t have to reroll it constantly?”
Outlaw: “Yes! Exactly!”
Blizz: “Loud and clear. We’re completely removing the ability to reroll bones without changing anything else about it.”
Outlaw: “Uh-… What?..”
Blizz: “You don’t have to thank me. It’s all in a days work listening to our community’s feedback.”
Outlaw: “…”
Blizz: “Have Slice and Dice on the house. ;)”

At least they lowered the energy cost to 25e.
They haven’t done it in beta yet but they should. No reason to have it cost 50e if you can’t control the rolls.

Yeah. It makes me wonder if anyone on their team who makes these changes actually plays the class or is just sitting there with a clipboard, kunai belt clip, and some Errol flynn posters on the wall or something spitting ideas into a raffle box.

So, maintaining RTB BTE and SND feels wretched. I just want to sinister strike (and in fact, that’s all I actually do –
DealWithIt).
But, silver lining, both RTB and SND proc PvP talent Cut to the Chase Take Your Cut. So I can do some excellent buffing to ranged DPS in AV standing there as a player totem with my 15% haste shout (8 yd range).
Probably shouldn’t say that too loud, because they’ll remove SND from that list and lock the buff to the CD window on RTB (worst possible outcome – classic Blizzard).

I hate it now more than ever.

Well RTB is still RTB don’t expect it to make you sleep better at night.
Be happy its importance is minimized.
Ride the wave.

Since it doesn’t take combo points now, is there a macro that would cast RtB if it’s up and otherwise cast something else? ( Sinister strike )
Since it’s just an always on random buff now.
The change doesn’t make much sense to me. Also it’s quite annoying having to maintain RTB, SND and BTE. I’m sure I’ll get used to it but damn, thinking I’ll play my prot pally first in SL instead of rogue.

With the restless blades passive, RtB can be rerolled in like 15-25 sec. So no need to get stuck for the whole duration if receiving a bad buff.
Grand melee works well for maintaining SnD.
Roll the Bones is several times better than what it used to be in BfA, but sadly, multiplying 0 by any other number is still 0.
Now in all seriousness, there are some ways to keep the ability being RNG, but making it feel less bad when getting a bad roll. My suggestion is making it ALWAYS provide 2 buffs. No more 1 buff and no more 5 buffs.

Just use on CD. Oh wait, you can also be energy locked… scribbles furiously on notepad.
I got nothin’, boss. I just sinister strike.
The goal is to work RtB off the cast bar and out of the rotation. Could use the button, already two modifiers in on this toon. ( Well my rogue )

There’s no stance checking for RTB. Best I can figure is a castsequence. Use a reset timer and put RTB or SND up first.
Or… Take it off your cast bar and out of your rotation. That’s where I am.
The problem is that I don’t think it has. I didn’t see that any of the buffs changed in power significantly. The throughput difference between the best and worst buffs is still going to be very noticeable, the only difference now is that if we get shafted by RNGsus, we have no way of trying again.
The thing that kept RtB from feeling completely horrible in BFA was the fact that you could defeat the RNG with statistics. Rerolling felt like trash, but it was better than getting stuck doing 20% less DPS for 45 seconds.
Instead of fixing the core issue that caused the reroll spam in the first place, Blizzard actively made it even more of an RNG pain point. It’s literally like trying to “cure” an illness by just covering up the symptoms. Reroll spam was just a symptom of the larger imbalance issue with the ability.
None of which Blizzard even bothered to try to fix. Instead opting for this 30-second solution.

Maybe, just maybe, the best will actually get tuned to be 20% over other damage dealers. And the worst, well will still be the worst.
Tuning before had to assume players fished for the best, and the spec would be tuned for that, resulting in bad output for anyone just casually rolling instead of fishing.
I never used RtB before because I didn’t like it. And now it’s a stock skill instead of a talent. Super lame.
They did that for a lot of classes; making talents into stock skills. We chose to be without them before, don’t force them on us now.
It was always a base ability before. The only case you wouldn’t have it is if you chose the talent that exchanged RtB for SnD. But you wouldn’t do that because even talenting for SnD was a non-negligible DPS loss. It was just the worst option for dps through pretty much the whole expac, which is a huge bummer. If it were even just on par or slightly below RtB in throughput, it would have been the meta pick of the tier just by the grace of removing a significant chunk of RNG from your kit.
rtb is worse now. it is not a fun button to push, it just takes up space and is often a disappointment.
The ability should have just become what one of our conduits is “Count the Odds”. when using X ability there is a chance for it to proc a buff for 5 seconds. or just straight up removed.
But no, in typical blizzard fashion they double down on things players clearly dislike and oh, whats this? not 1, but 2 Potency Soulbinds dedicated to the stupid ability. 1 of which completely defeats the purpose of the change to begin with (and you wouldnt take it anyway because you cant get all 4 Soulbinds)
it just seems like they ran out of ideas because no one there plays outlaw. and the other 2 are even more RnG.
Yes, that would make it yet another a passive, but when it comes to RnG like RtB, passive would be far more preferable to on use RnG.
Now yer stuck with whatever garbage you get. IMO, now its just a stupid maintenance buff taking up space.
withe addition of KS, SnD, and Shiv im all out of keys. If i could get rid of one, it would definitely be RtB. Ill gain one back when losing the HoA but will be replaced by Flag.

Ran a couple keys tonight and I think this sums it up. Costs next to nothing to use now so they can’t let you keep rolling it. So it’s just a button you press every 30 seconds.
Losing the charges on blade flurry hasn’t helped. Spec feels relatively a lot weaker now.
