I’m not particularly fond of Roll and prefer Chi Torpedo instead. While the redesigned class tree is impressive, I believe Chi Torpedo is just as crucial to the monk’s identity as Roll is.
Currently, there are three skills that focus solely on Roll:
- Lighter than Air
- Rushing Reflexes
- Swift Art
However, from what I’ve reviewed in the rest of the tree, it seems there is little emphasis on Chi Torpedo apart from the option to choose it over Roll and its additional range. Where are the class talents specifically for Chi Torpedo?

Do the roll talents not apply to chi torpedo? I haven’t played my monk since the talent changes bc I don’t like what they are doing.

no they don’t, they are designed for roll only
That seems like an oversight imo. Just another reason to shelve my monk after 10+ years.
It is an oversight and I’m pretty salty over it, i can deal with the removal of skyreach but the oversight on chi torpedo makes the choice to reroll easier.

Lighter than Air definitely works with Chi Torpedo. I have tested it and there are videos on YouTube of it working. Quick Tips: How to Use Lighter Than Air in PvP! (youtube.com)
I haven’t personally tested the other two talents, but I would assume they work with Torpedo.

This is false. All talents that affect roll affect Torpedo also.
After doing some testing on live:
-
Chi Torpedo works with Lighter than air. You get the 5s window to dash like with roll.
-
Bounding Agility works with Chi Torpedo. The talent is just pretty pitiful, it’s only about a few steps worth of movement, maybe like 1-2 in game yards. ( I think they should rework this talent to reduce the CD of roll/Torp imo. )
-
Rushing Reflexes also works with Chi Torpedo. It’s just a bad talent.
-
Energy Transfer works with Chi Torpedo. CD is reduced when you interrupt.
-
Crashing Momentum works. It successfully slows adds when you Chi Torpedo through them

Didn’t feel like finding a mob with a snare to test Swift Art, but I assume because everything else works with Chi Torp AND Roll that this would also work.
Everything seems to work with Roll or Torpedo. Chose whichever talents you think are best for your playstyle/content. I prefer roll myself, more charges, more dashes, more control over where you end up, which means more fun for me. The only time I swap to torp is if I end up in a Ghuun prog situation where I need to cover a vast distance quickly. ( ex: soloing the matrix orbs on one side ). Outside of that rare occurrence I really like having the more frequent roll, and I like being able to roll backwards.
Both are viable and work with all talents from my testing. It comes down to which you prefer.

Torpedo is good only for transmog run imo.
Roll has more charges and smaller cd.
Also torpedo and tiger lust do not stack, which is a shame

thank you for that info, Reading the talents is miss leading because it says roll. Hence my complaint
