I think this thread could help out a few people who aren’t sure about rping on WyrmrestAccord, In Wow or are just new to Roleplaying.
Tip 1: Try To Burst The Bubble - Its okay to be shy, sometimes you gotta take the first step others times its okay to walk away and try again.
Tip 2: Spelling Errors Are Acceptable- Coming to America I had a hard time spelling and even muck up here or there so don’t worry to much, 7/10 that person understood what you meant anyway
Tip 3: Control Your Characters, Don’t Let Your Characters Control You- If your character doesn’t like someone IC, don’t let your OOC bring off that vibe. We can all be homies here. And if you don’t like something OOC then simply tell the person your not ok with this or that and let them know. It could help them fit in much more properly or you might find something you like.
Tip 4: The Spicy One Consent, Verify, Consent- For the Homies out there who do the bump and grind or are thinking about it. Always get consent from your partner and verify them. I’m not saying ask their ASL just say are you of age for this kind of roleplay.
Note : Please use whisper if you go public, I’ve seen one too many and ya’ll could give 50 Shades Of Gray a run for its money
That’s most of the tips, if you got a tip leave it down below and see if we can’t welcome some new faces to this (Horde-Aligned) Server, Lok’ Tar.
Here’s a few add-on related tips that have helped me a lot:
If you’re using TRP, utilize the notes section! A character revealed something about themselves that’s very important but you have a bad memory? Add it to that character’s notes so you don’t forget. Similarly, you can use the notes of your own character to document stuff that’s happened to them or even keep info hidden while still having it to keep your character consistent. It’s how I keep my about sections minimalistic and only showing what would be important to a stranger walking up for the first time. In short, use those notes!
Ever wonder how people can type and it comes out as a big multi-part lump? There’s two addons for that! You can either use Emote Splitter or Unlimited Chat to get around WoW’s character limit. I saw people typing like this for years but was always too embarrassed to ask what add-on it was, so here you go! I personally use Emote Splitter but sometimes people have issues with it, 90% of the time if one doesn’t work switching to the other one will.
And finally, are you cursed by typos like I am? Then the add-on Misspelled is for you! It adds a hand dandy dictionary to the game and highlights when you’ve spelled something wrong. You can even add stuff to the dictionary like the names of people you rp with often.
A somewhat nice thing I do: If you mess up or can’t remember a word, do it IC too.
I’m not a (native) English speaker myself, so sometimes I say a word and I’m not sure if it’s correct, so my character will say “Is that the word?” or something like that, just so I don’t ask OOC or second-guess myself!
Here are some that helped me a lot after I broke through the initial shy to walk-up stages.
When you’re developing your character, find ways to make the game play into them. We have a LOT in World of Warcraft, take advantage of it to give your character some depth. Knowing how your character looks, and how they act are great, but placing them in the world to actually do something is just as important.
Find ways to make your character stand out from the pack. In Stormwind/Orgrimmar, there’s probably hundreds of Mercenary or Treasure Hunter (guilty since Cata! >D) types roaming around that do…Well, nothing! Go find some neat, unique places in the massive world Blizzard has created for us and put your characters occupation to use. You never know, chances are who you’re RPing with will discover a new place they’ve never seen.
