Are you telling me that Cletus, my Westfall farmer turned soldier of the Alliance - simple in mind but great of heart - isnât a compelling enough RP character for you?
I mean, my RP toon HAS more than 5k words in her backstory, but I donât let people know what it is until they ask her for it.
Iâm not going to walk around with my IRL backstory on my shirt b/c itâs nunya until you get to know me a little. Same with my RP toon. Her MOUNT has a 2k-word backstory.
I get what youâre driving at, though. There was a lot of distracting nonsense from non-RPâers on the RP server I rolled on, and I wondered, âWhy are these people even here?â
Iâm gonna kidnap you and sell you to a childrenâs toy store for later sale during Childrenâs Week. With luck, youâll be locked in a kidâs bedroom as a stuffy toy instead of being in the forums making these suggestions
Are you telling me that my ugly human character named Facestank that is balding and perpetually in search of some good moustache wax so that he can style his moustache like the gnomes do (to draw the eye away from his balding head) isnât a serious character?
I need to log on that guy. I could use a laugh and havenât messed around on a rp server in years.
Edit: Wait. I just remembered those datamined moustaches from Shadowlands. Maybe the old fellow will finally find that moustache wax and regain his self confidence. LOL
I enjoy RP. I frequently enjoy it casually. But I do have a full TRP3 profile for this character written up and active. And I have backstories for every single one of my 19x level 120 alts and lower level characters in case I have an opportunity to slip into RP with someone that wants to.
But I also like and want to be able to enjoy other aspects of the game like mythic raiding and m+. Iâm ok with having non RP people on RP realms when that means we have enough player population to support all manner of game play. You can always find guilds and communities for RP when not every single person around you wants to do so.
My serverâs made up almost entirely of the breed. Makes for sparse, but high-quality RP - if you can find a clique thatâll take you.
The RP Gangs of Stormwind are a close-knit bunch. A single word out of order and theyâll have you sleeping with the murlocs. Or worse: shipped off to the Lionâs Pride where the RP lepers have their way with you.
How does one do the âRP elitismâ? Do you play make believe even harder than everyone else? Is it knowledge based? Does it go off of successful ERP hours logged? Is there an overarching RP storyline where you earn these elitism points? Does the RP have to mirror the in-game lore, Champion? If it does, do people have to fight to the death like Klingons in order to have the title of Champion?
pros and cons of elitist RP:
Pro - progressive storytelling. One can actually become âmoreâ than their story dictates.
Con - RP Addon: shared names. Good luck trying to figure out which âHeatherâ with pink font you spoke to last time is, because thereâs 4 here today.
Con - RP Continuity: If you find yourself in a never-ending cycle of meet n greet, you never get to finish character development. even ERP needs progression to get anywhere. âCasualâ RP with no destination is basically âsmall talk,â and I could do more things with my time than talking about how the weather of Elwynn is rainy today.
