I rolled on Grobb, as I rolled on Emerald Dream many years ago. Back in Vanilla, ED had plenty of RP and was a RPPVP realm. However, leveling on Grobbulus I’ve seen the majority of people here are not roleplayers, do not have roleplay addons and in many cases troll the concept of roleplay. It makes me sad.
I could very well be proven wrong, in that down the road RP begins to pick up but as someone who has always been very interested and engaged in RP, it’s frustrating that people seem to only be here to avoid queues and streamers, and have no interest in going In-Character.
Its definitely pretty rough, and frustrating to know that so many people are here not for the RP-PvP, but to avoid the streamers, or because their PvP server of choice just had too many people on it so they rolled here thinking it’d be easier to get on and play.
Or even worse, those that came here with no intention of RP-PvPing, but just because they wanted to be top dogs in the Instanced PvE and PvP scenes and knew they couldn’t cut it on a normal PvP server =/
I’m still holding out hope that at least some of the chaff will be gone within a month or so, and that most of the people who quit before getting to 60, or just after getting to 60, will be Non-RPers. If those of us who like RP and RP-PvP can stick it out, we can create something amazing, I feel.
For now though, the future does look a little bleak, not gonna lie.
EDIT: It sucks that we fought for months for just one RP-PvP server, and now here we are with two just because Blizzard made a snap judgment based on inaccurate information (that the RP-PvP community is big enough for two servers, which I truly don’t believe it is.)
RP tends to fade away on any server when new content drops, and we are right out of the gates here on something new.
You don’t need an add-on to RP… I wouldn’t be quick to judge people that don’t use them.
RP-PvP servers have always had a minority RP population, if you are defining RP as people with RP add-ons that are big on RP events. I wish this wasn’t the case, but it is.
Best we can hope for is that time weeds out some of those with no RP intentions. As for those who do want a thriving RP community here, there is one very simple thing you can do to help make it happen.
I enjoy RP and will play my character, but I am much to busy to have the ole Tavern RP until I am 60 and geared. Don’t judge the realm based on the first week, there are a lot of RP Emerald Dream guilds here
I’ve always planned on RPing. I’m more of a “Light RPer” insofar as I don’t really sit and RP for hours, but I’m always writing bios for my characters and reading others, doing little actions IC, thanking people IC for buffs, etc.
But, speaking for myself, I’ve barely had time. Right now it’s all about rushing levels for me when I get a chance to log on. I only just got TRP3 today, despite meaning to do it for days.
I know this is totally anecdotal, but I do feel like there are a lot of people like me; people who plan on RPing but just haven’t even gotten around to it.
I wouldn’t worry too much! I’d be more worried about your rotten melon getting caved in by me hammer, deader!
I definitely plan on being an active RPer on this server, as I am on ED. My priority right now is leveling. I want to stay competitive in WPvP, so I don’t want to fall behind. Been having a blast fighting alliance in Hillsbrad!
I’m in the group that came here to avoid queues, but I’ve also heard that RP servers tend to be more mature overall.
That said, i don’t remember Blizzard stating that I have to RP on RP servers, and I’m pretty sure you’re welcome to RP on nonRP realms.
This thread sounds like you may be more upset about splitting your community between 2 realms, and less about nonRPers. I’m respectful of players that choose to RP and enjoy being around them. I’m actually bummed that i missed the shaman gathering this past Sunday.
Don’t complain about the lack of RP and point to nonRPers. Like the guy above said, if you want RP, go out and RP.
I still haven’t installed many add-ons because the first week I was having problems with getting them to work so I figured I’d try back later.
I made it to the opening event in park district for alliance and while there was an amount of spam and foolery, I think it’s to be expected when you have 200+ people in a public place. I believe the spam was just a vocal minority compared to the amount of people who were quiet and respecting the event.
I am happy with what I’ve seen leveling so far though, lots of helpful people and light RP in passing. (Especially waiting for boats, quest mobs, or fishing)
If we didn’t have non-RPers roll on Grob, they wouldn’t have had to create a second RP-PvP realm, and we would then have a purer, shared interest community.
I don’t blame you. RP is easy anyway, just use a RP compliant name (which it looks like you have done) and come up with a light back story. Orcs are easy to RP because you can just act like you’re stupid “something need doing?” or just act like a cocky alpha male gorrila. Anyways, you’ll get the hang of it. Don’t let these RPers gatekeep you just because you’re new.
Edit: I would just like to add, the WPVP on Grob is going to be awesome.
I hope you at least try if someone approaches you IC.
Because there is a million other low/med/high servers out there without RP in the title, and because people came here to avoid queue it separated the community
Another shaman gathering tue. 10th. And check out the thread for our new discord Call of the Shaman.
But for this thread: it takes time to build the community and we will get there. I also think that those that used to heavy grief events on retail servers have probably grown and changed a bit and we will hopefully see non-rpers that are more like Woeden, here. Enjoying the extra atmosphere that rp brings to a server and being respectful and helpful.
