I think at this point we should have more role-less content or atleast make timewalking/normal dungeons role-less for those who wanna opt into that style of play
Rn we got alot of dps classes with good selfhealing and defensives and alot of cc/aoe interrupts we can use. Queue times are abysmal for dps and most players(AGAIN MOST PLAYERS) do not want to do the other 2 roles whether its personal reasons, toxicity, or too much weight on ur shoulders to perform perfectly or know all the right routes/have every bit of gameplay down right
With tanks being glorified healers and dps, or healers have defensive buttons, or dps having healing and defensive cds. We have essentially abandoned what the trinity originally was and the game isnt more welcoming to the players in the tank or healer role, especially if ur new. I love tanking, i used to do it in pvp and pve but its just not fun anymore and i would rather stick with dps because i can atleast admit i dont know all the dungeons/routes/gameplay mechanics in order to consistently perform to the standard that toxic players want me to when im in that role
Obviously trinity would still be the most optimal way to run content but we should have an outlet in dungeon finder specifically if we dont wanna do that
Aren’t we already doing this? Delves are role-less content, lorewalking, soloable instances, open world, scenarios. Raids are of course trinity-like and it’s mostly true in M+ content, sometimes even extending to five tanks.
Is what you really want dungeons without the tank and healer role? It doesn’t sound fun to have more dps and defensives given to a dps spec and then call this problem solved because you didn’t need a healer, because that lets both a tank and a healer just do the dps role. Maybe that’s enough?
Delves are solo content with optional multiplayer element, it also has role elements with brann, im asking for role-less in dungeon finder, which is forced multiplayer.
You also cant do delves while leveling im pretty sure and thats what half of ppl even do dungeon finder for
Good luck then. The holy trinity exists because one person soaks damage, one person heals it, and the rest all DPS. Changing that … well I don’t know.
Holy trinity? anyways the mmo trinity isnt the same as it was 20yrs ago, healers can opt into dps focused builds now that benefit healing aswell, most tanks can mesh their healing in with dmg/bleeds,
all 3 roles have healing, dps, and dmg mitigation caked into their kit, with them specializing at a specific thing, this isnt a standard trinity lol
ive seen dps players pop dstance and go tank in dungeons, or dps players in healing roles in dungeons, even a tank queueing as a dps in lfr. At this point we should just have an instant Q mode for this stuff

FWIW even trinity-less mmos have roles, but they’re also built in a way where roles aren’t as essential until endgame stuff. GW2 is of course the classic example, but raiding absolutely requires roles (2 heals, 2 alac, 2 quick, 2 supports - 1or 2 of those 8 are tanks - and probably 2 pure dps), and t4 fractals generally assume your party will have some sense of roles and will hurt if you don’t have them.
Basically it’s a more freeform situation but one that isn’t structure-less.
those games also have more build variety(i was a dps/boonsupport in gw2)
goes to show the trinity isnt mandatory for an mmo anymore and wow has been slowing removing the multiplayer element and also giving all specs/classes things that should be role-exclusive, so my thought process is just rip it off like a bandaid
Well that and as anet has expanded elites they’ve gradually made sure every profession brought at least one of the core raid buffs to the table, so you don’t 100% need to slot in mesmers for just alactank.

Once you start infringing on the roles of people that will literally ruin the game. Dont use the meme mode as a basis to fundamentally change it. Healers and tanks are very few, lets not dimish their role even more. If anything tanks and healers should be more important across all levels of contemt not just max level m+.
Levelimg normal heroic timewalkimg mobs should get a +300% white swing increase and spell damage so anyone not a tank will die to them
This has beem answered a milliom times already. Because those two roles entail a LOT more responsability and acountability than dps. Many many dont enjoy that. They just want to turn off their brain and do their rotation.
Reality is the skill floor for dps is so higher than tank and healers. Thats why. Complicated issue that has no real answer.
