I played quite a bit of the stress test yesterday and decided I wanna play a rogue when classic goes live. But i’m uncertain about which race to pick. I made a human rogue and enjoyed it. But I wanted to get some opinions from people who played way back when.
PVE: Human
PVP: Dwarf
I’m going to play NE, because I love those zones. Play what you want, or what people tell you to play for the purpose of min/maxing.
Night Elf because they show off your gear the best.
Order of usefullness for rogue (top most useful) IMO:
- Dwarf stone form obviously usefull in pvp.
- Gnome egni spec and escape artist very nice for rogue
- Human perception really good against other rogues (rvr anyone?)
- Nelf SM isn’t completely useless as a rogue. just very situational and technical.
Escape artist can turn tables in some sutuations.
Sub Nelf is top stealther in the rogue v rogue game, other than when Human pops Perception…
Isn’t there a passive stealth boost?
Yep, making them top stealther in game outside of when Human pops Perception.
Yes. but it don’t really help much except countering human perception… but since you are alliance you ain’t fighting humans.
PvP any race, especially humans and ne and gnome and dwarf.
Alliance races are pretty much anti rogue, stealth level increased, increase ability to see stealth when poping out of stealth and immune to poisons and bleed temporary.
Gnome escape artist againt mage and hunter root seems good.
Priority are probably elf over human unlike someone up top said about situation in terms of stealth level increased affects everyone vs rogues and druids.
Gnome best overall PVP Race.
Dwarf if you really want to win Rogue mirrors.
Human if u want to pve but pve so easy doesn’t matter. Only class I would recommend going Human would be a person wanting to tank.
NE is best. Best stealth level, you don’t get the opener you’re usually SoL especially without your cds. It could also save you a talent point in sub if you wanted to just equal other sub rogues.
gnome: enrages horde the most in pvp to be ganked by
dwarf: useful pvp skill, but gnome is arguable as good, with added bonus of rage-inducing
night elf: no, just no, dont be THAT guy
human: “i dont know what to pick so i picked human”
gnome all day every day
Night Elf rogue is the coolest looking alliance rogue for sure, the bonus stealth doesnt hurt either
Don’t be fooled by Escape Artist. It’s not that good. It’s just ok, but no better than +1 to stealth (NE) or +weapon skill (human). Obviously Perception is amazing if you’re using it well.
If you want to be a dagger rogue, then I guess gnome, but that will hardly matter for you in pvp since your weapon skill requirements are dramatically lower vs other players. You’d be better off as any of the other races otherwise.
ALL OF THAT SAID – if you like gnomes, make a damn gnome, play what you want to look at for the remainder of classic
Dwarf is the best PVP choice. There’s no competing with stoneform vs players. The problem is that whenever you’re not fighting players, the race has little to offer.
Human is uncontested for swinging swords, and thus popular for raiders. Human rogue with 310 skill has 100% glances by default.
Night elf is generally useful. It has top agility, stealth/dodge bonus. Basically it takes your rogue and makes him better at being a rogue. Perhaps the best choice for dagger stabbing because the stealth bonus would help you position ambushes.
Gnome isn’t even worth listing.
Id go with human. Since you picked them first, Im going to assume they appealed to you the most.
And for pvp its all situational. Each racial is best in a certain scenario.
