Having a hard time finding a clear answer, is there ever a time when rogue can perform just as well with say swords, maces, and axes as with daggers?
Outlaw is the only rogue spec that uses axes, maces, fist weapons and swords. And even then it’s only needed in the main hand. You can use a dagger in your offhand if you want, or the others.
Assassination and subtlety are strictly daggers only.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think Kyrian subtlety is your highest dps marks for PvE. I strictly play outlaw, though.
I don’t PvP so I can’t speak to that.
