Rogue vs Shaman

Hey guys,

I know the two are completely different, but I am looking for some guidance. I currently am at a crossroads. I have a human rogue at level 47, and an Orc Shaman at 52. Both on PvP Servers.

I would like to focus on raiding for most of the time playing WoW classic, but I have never healed before. I have played rogue at 60 back in the day, so I somewhat remember what to expect, but it was an alt and just funneled gear with ease so, yeah.

Im kind of looking for pros and cons of the playstyle at 60. Am I too late to get into the raids as dps since I am hitting 60 much later than the curve? Are people even doing attunements anymore?

The only other thing is my rogue is on a heavily imbalanced server in favor for my rogues faction thanks to blizzard opening up server transfers and all the horde leaving. So not sure if thats a bad sign to transfer off?

Sorry for the slight rant. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to respond to this.

It’s never too late to start raiding, even as dps. There are plenty of guilds that are constantly recruiting new members and more than willing to help with attunements. As far as dps goes rogue is much better than both elemental and enhancement shaman. All that’s left to figure out is what you honestly would rather play at 60, either class will be fine to raid and/or pvp with so maybe pick the one you find more aesthetically pleasing/fun.

Hardly, people are always doing attunements. Granted it’s not as widespread as even 3 months ago, but guild still need warm bodies to fill their raids, and people still need to run dungeons for their PreBIS.

Since it’s the enemy faction that’s outnumbered, it’s probably neutral at worst (no WPvP encounters) and very good at best (less competition for resources). It’s when you own faction start bailing out is when you should start being worried.

As for the two classes, shaman is overall more desired (especially resto shamans; DPS shaman is less appealing, but they still are worth having in the raids, especially Enhance shamans. But for DPS output, a rogue is going to perform better)

The main thing with is that rogues are more common than shamans, and you’re playing rather late in the game so an established guild might not want a fresh rogue over a fresh shaman. A shaman will likely gear up a LOT faster as well.

That being said, play whatever you like.

If you plan to go into BC with a toon you want to play or have an idea what you want to transition to, id play that.

Think about the future if you do plan to go into TBC.

My history raiding was 60 hunter and 60 pvp/dps warrior + pve prot in original Vanilla.
Now I am a main healer with my 60 Sham and I PvP with him also. i find healing as a Shaman is really fun.

Biggest pros would be your:

  1. Chain Heal. Best AoE heal in the game that you just spam in raids
  2. Totems. WF, strength, tremor, mana spring/tide, poison, GoA, Tranquil air are the reasons people want you to be in their group. As a resto sham you shouldn’t have any issue finding a guild.

Biggest cons would be:

  1. Totems: you constantly have to reset them and it can be annoying (make sure to have a totem-addon)
  2. A lot of downranking, as a raiding shaman I rarely use my max rank heals. Ill use a max rank CH if the group is taking heavy aoe damage, max rank HW when I pop NS and need to heal a tank right away, I only use rank 5 LHW for emergency heals. If you only use max rank, you will OOM right away

After a few dungeons as Resto you’ll get the hang of what rank heals to use in what situations. Spam R1 or R2 CH but keep R3 on your bar for heavy aoe damage. For longer bosses like Garr, Domo, Rag, ONY and most of BWL, I like to make sure I am wearing more MP5 gear. Also bring Major Mana Pots, this a necessity but I didn’t do it at first.

If you plan to PvP, go Elemental, its more fun and you don’t need most of the resto talents in PvP.
