So I’m getting a little bored. All I’ve been doing is tanking. I’m wanting to pickup a dps spec, and my rogue is one of my oldest toons. However, I haven’t played him in awhile…
If I pick up my rogue again am I going to be kicking myself because I’m waiting forever to get in a dungeon group?
Rogue is fun and has 3 specs to choose from, though assassination only is really competitive during 2/3 cleave. They’re great at solo content, they’re fun in pvp with all the quirky stuff you can do like ninja capping and stalling flag carriers.
As far as pve goes you bring some very nice utility with attack/cast speed reductions, enrage dispells, tons of stuns/disorientates, a group stealth that is amazing in mythic plus skips, a cc (sap) that doesn’t cause people to gain aggro when moving near the mob (also great for skips). Cloak of shadows for cheesing mechanics, and cheat death to solo soak stuff in fights that would usually require multiple.
All 3 specs are fun, currently outlaw/sub are both great for cleave/ cleave aoe with priority targets/single target(outlaw being the former, sub the latter). But unless you’re mythic raiding or getting into 2200+ arena rating the small differences in damage between the specs aren’t going to bring success/failure on their own. I absolutely love rogue and hope you will too!
Speaking purely from an open world content perspective…Rogues are a lot of fun and each of the three specs feel entirely different from each other. We also have the best version of Stealth you will see in any game. It’s the one unique class ability that keeps me coming back. Once you get the Master Assassin Legendary, you will melt every non elite mob and do very well on soloing elites also. Also Legion (class hall campaign) is a lot of fun for Rogues and we have some really awesome looking Artifact weapons. But this is just my 2cents. I dont raid or pvp (anymore. 50k kills burnt me out). Snoz or others would be better to answer those.
To me, Rogue is a play style more than it is a class.
I’ve played as both Subtlety and as Outlaw in raids so far – a bit more soul ash to make the Zydick boots, I’ll give Assassination a spin again as well. Most of our raid averages 197 item level, and we Rogues occasionally have our time in the sun at the top of the dps meters. (Yes, I’ve cleared Normal. No, we’re only 2/10 on Heroic in our second week doing it, and no, we’re not interested in the headache that is Mythic raiding. So while I can’t speak for that high of tier, I at least know what I’m taking about for the basic stuff.)
I also play both in keys, though my group never cares about pushing past 10 keys anyways since the loot is fixed. I will say, given that dungeons tend to have more groups of mobs, Outlaw tends to be the better choice there.
Assassination just got a buff, and with the right gear/skillset, it does just fine, but tends to do better on single targets or small groups of mobs – can only rupture so many at a time…
If you want to push high keys or mythic raiding, do the min-max thing and follow the cookie-cutter recommendations that sites like IcyVeins tell you. Will you be sat on raids? Depends on the raid makeup. Some of the guys above have said it correctly: we bring nothing unique or necessary to groups anymore, and let’s face it… some raid leaders are (insert sophomoric term for male genitalia here) so you may sit a lot.
So it all boils down to just how far you want to go with your rogue… either be Flavour of the Month and complain for the next 3 months as class balance gets turned on its head, making you want to reroll classes, or enjoy Rogue for what it is – a self-sufficient class with good mobility, good damage and good playstyle for everyday farming/grinding.
I’ve seen you on multiple threads telling people they don’t know what they’re talking about and just being rude in general. I think you’re kind of a prick and YOU have no idea what you’re talking about.
I said sin wasn’t very competitive, twice. Not competitive doesn’t mean completely unviable.
There are a ton of places rogue skips are useful, idk what you’re going on about here.
Sub is great good at cleave , not the best but decent.
This is not utility. Utility would be something like, say, a combat rez or a groupwide buff/cooldown. The closest thing is Shroud, which is a joke.
Not utility.
Tons? Stuns, multiple? Disorientates? No. Sorry. We have Kidney Shot. Cheap Shot is only usable in Stealth and it may as well be a 2min cooldown, assuming you’re using Vanish for something idiotic like Cheap Shot (we’ve all done it - right?). Of course there is Shadow Dance, but if we’re talking about what the rogue class brings to a given situation, stuns–multiple–is simply being dishonest. Rogue has no more CC than any other dps class. In fact, some are even doing it better now.
Blind is a 2 minute cooldown and it breaks if someone nearby sneezes. None of this constitutes “tons” of CC.
It’s not, and skipping has never been less appealing in any 5man content in the history of WoW, given the current dungeon layouts. Shroud should have never been unpruned.
See above. Further, Sap is another one of those things we can only do from Stealth, and only against targets out of combat. This is a unique CC, but it’s not “rogue utility.”
Oh, so effectively the same thing that other classes have for defensive cooldowns? These are a given, nothing unique to rogues, and certainly not a good reason to bring a rogue with you.
Snoz is right. No, sorry, I can’t. Not like this. But look. All I’m saying is that you have zero idea what you’re talking about.
tons of stuns yes, rotate cheap shots during shadowdance, rotate them during subterfuge.
besides De Other Side there are a ton of very nice skips to take that still allow you to hit the percent you need while also avoiding very annoying miniboss mobs
yeah you can only sap out of combat, since youll be skipping the mobs yeah they wont be in combat so?
never said they were unique to rogues, but they are part of their toolkit. You’re making assumptions and your own interpretations of what I said that are completely wrong.
You obviously have never even TOUCHED a rogue before so idk what you’re even going on about. See? I can be a sarcastic douche too. Rogues have less cc than any other class? LOL yeah they aren’t known for overwhelming control or anything.
