Rogue Tanks Trash Tier in Scarlet Enclave

Been tanking as a rogue quite happily in Naxx with no real issues with survivability or single target threat. AOE threat’s always been a weak spot, but we made up for it with other strengths. But in Scarlet Enclave, between the -20% dodge debuff, the prevalence of magical damage AND the random nerf to Just a Flesh Wound, it feels like Rogue tanks, at least in Scarlet Enclave aren’t just suboptimal, we’re trash tier.

I tanked it tonight and it was beyond embarrassing. I’ve never had serious survivability issues before, but tonight it was like I wasn’t a tank at all - even with all my tank runes and Naxx gear (yes, TANKING gear), I was getting absolutely demolished like I would if I was a regular DPS rogue. “What the ____ is happening?!?” was a phrase I probably uttered at least half a dozen times on Discord over the course of a three hour raid.

I can’t be the only one noticing this. I know that no matter how much a class is nerfed there’s always going to be some players who insist they’re fine, but surely I’m not the only one who’s noticed a significant decrease in rogue tank survivability recently. Right? Right?!?

its been a sh!t show, naxx bis geared, fully consumed and flasked up and I get swatted by the bosses in SE, can’t dodge , get crushed, tiny amount of armour , I just burn battle rez’s from our druids

Ya I’m super frustrated with this phase, so much so I just unsubbed both my accounts. Tired of certain classes getting spammed by the nerf bat after investing so much time in them while Druids don’t get touched. Sick of it.

Still not sure why we’re randomly nerfing specific tank types by tremendous amounts.

Where’s the “Shields cannot be equipped” debuffs? “Bear form is disabled.” ? “Holy damage is disabled” ?

Why are Rogues explicitly nuked?

Why is the way defensive layering set up still slated to guarantee Rogues take almost nothing but crushing blows?

Why are we nerfing 10% off the current last place tank?

I’m using Naxx/AQ40 tier and honestly the 10% to increased damage is scary. Already taking 80% of my HP in damage from Herod in 1 ability. Not looking forward to this weeks lockout with this nerf.

best blizzard can do is giving us 10% damage back after giving JaFW -20% damage done

They are going to buff blade dance , when it’s active you can’t attack and can only do the dance animation and be rooted in place while taking 250% more damage

Wish they would redo the 2 and 4P 3.5 bonus to actually be tank oriented

I seriously read the Just A Flesh Wound nerf as “we’ve detected that you’ve practiced your class/spec and improved your skill. None of that is allowed. Get nerfed. Loser”

Rogue was the best tank by far on the last 3 bosses. While this probably isn’t the correct nerf they definitely needed a nerf. Whenever there is a tank outlier they should be nerfed back in line except for shaman last phase they can’t nerf they’re special class. This also mainly going off 20man I’m sure full 40 man bozo groups were very different I have no idea, but balance isn’t intended to be done around 40 man comps.

I was regularly getting hit by crushing blows in the 9k to 10.5k range…in full Naxx gear. Tell me how that’s fine. I don’t care how Rogue tanks supposedly perform on the last three bosses when we’re getting shredded to pieces in the first 5. Sounds more to me that those bosses need to get reworked than the entire class getting hit by the nerf bat.

Ur 100% correct bosses need to be nerfed. All tanks are taking that much dmg in crushing blows.

JAFW needs to have immunity to crushing blows.

The way B/P/E mitigation is set up and stacks forward to remaining damage equaling crushing blows is asinine and set up around a 20 year old system’s coding.

Also remove the 20% anti-dodge debuff. Just totally ridiculous, could you imagine if raids just had a casual “Shield Block, Holy Shield, and all Shield related mitigation abilities are disabled”

It’s already stupid that RWTP doesn’t stack offensively without tier bonusing it, so during tank swaps you casually lose your premier scaling defensive attribute - leading you into a taunt + crushing without RWTP stacked.

At this point, if our physical mitigation is going to be nerfed this much, can we please have our dodge back for Just A Flesh Wound? The rune seems like such a huge nerf to rogue tanks now.

Are we playing the same game? ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the 20 man groups that cleared the raid used a rogue tank SPECIFICALLY because it is/was the best tank. In 40 man rogue was also the most successful tank by a large margin.

No idea how they are doing after the nerf, but if you were wondering why they were nerfed, this is why.

Evidently not, because with one or two exceptions (besides myself), no raids I’ve been in have used a rogue tank. I raid on two toons, my rogue tank and Holy/Disc priest. I’ve only seen a rogue tank besides myself used on two occasions. Pallies are by far the most common tanks used, followed by warriors, then druids. Rogues and Warlock tanks are by far the rarest tanks on my server.

Rogue is very good at the top end because of their physical mit on top of the debuffs they put on the boss. In 40 man raids you will probably have more rogues and thus the value of the debuffs is less since another rogue can just cover it. It really just comes down to optimized raid comp on why rogue was used a ton on top of their high physical mit specifically for herod. Nerfing rogue probably wasn’t the play. They probably should of buffed other tanks instead.

Paladins and Warriors do not take crushing blows, because they achieve 102.4% mit.

The issue with rogue tanks is that they cannot block, so they can only get uncrushable from dodge + parry, but that is total avoidance and doesn’t allow for damage to be dealt at all.

I could have sworn in classic that you could only avoid crushing if you had shield block available, which isn’t spammable?
