Rogue tanks - Can main gauche become the combo builder?

Not sure about others maining rogue tank in SoD

I’d really like this rune to become the combo-builder rune for tanking, since it increases parry it could tie into riposte nicely.
some suggestions:

  • Riposte should proc on special dodges and hit 3 targets.
Rogues need some cleave unless shuriken toss is getting buffed or will actually be decent come 60.

  • Remove main gauche CD, have it give a stacking parry% buff.
I prefer this, would be cool if tanks had their own combo generator.
  • maybe overkill but main gauche could also have chance to reset riposte CD, and use without waiting for parry for boss fights where they mostly cast.
  • would also like riposte to cleave in addition but maybe that is asking too much.

I would like to see it become a passive like in retail. But anyways they need to do something with it. There is no reason to take it over Mutilate. Without Mutilate, we have zero threat and cannot hold aggro. They need to completely rework Rogue tanks so that they can actually hold aggro on multiple targets. AoE is just awful for Rogues.

Main Gauche: Your main-hand attacks have a 30% chance to trigger an attack with your off-hand that deals (0.1% of Attack power) Physical damage.

They need to remove the entire premise of Rogue Tanking and hand it over to Survival Hunters who have all the talents to support it. - Albert Einstein, Theory of Azerothian game mechanics.

rogues have dodge %, parry %, trigger ability on parries … pretty sure they have the talents to support it aswell

not to mention an entire talent in sub that gives combo points on dodges.

I don’t think they really need it or need the Cleave imo. Maybe they do in these dungeon-esque “raids” that have tons of trash you can AOE, but they’re not gonna need it on Garr in MC or any other raid tank duty imo.

You can just have the Rogue tank Nef also I’m pretty sure, while someone else picks up adds. The Rogue should always be the main single target tank, it shouldn’t be asked to deal with adds.

Four Horsemen you’re not gonna need a cleave.

I put this up in the other thread calling for “no tanking”

  • 5/5 Deflection for 5% parry

  • 5/5 Survivalist for 10% health increase

  • Deterrence for + 25% parry/dodge on cooldown

  • 5/5 Lightning Reflexes for 15% agility

  • 5/5 Imp Wing clip to stop runners

  • 5/5 Entrapment for traps to lock them down (with Trap Launcher this was already huge in SM Phase 2)

  • 3/3 Killer Instinct for 3% Crit

  • 3/3 Surefooted for 3% Crit and snare resistance

  • Wyvern Sting for Crowd Control Pull (not that anyone uses crowd control any more)

Combine all that with Catlike Reflexes (20% dodge), Heart of the Lion (10% stats)/Lone Wolf (30% Dmg), Melee Specialist, Flanking Strike, Raptor Fury, Carve and switch between Trap Launcher and Dual Wield Specialisation (Which basically turns Raptor Strike into Mutilate)

Add Improved Aspect of the Monkey and your Avoidance will be well over 50% without Deterrance.

The only thing Missing is a Rune or Talent like Just a Flesh Wound to reduce your Crit chance by 6% and some way to taunt and you have yourself a tank.

The only talent in Survival that isn’t useful for tanking is Improved Feign Death

EVERY OTHER TALENT IS USEFUL FOR TANKING

They should have embraced Hunter Tank and given rogues a ranged utility spec.

Survival Hunter specialization has far more talent options surrounding tanking.

The entire tree revolves around AoE Tanking, Crowd Control and Survivability. It’s a no brainer

not to mention an entire talent in sub that gives combo points on dodges.

That requires 10 points invested into non-tanking talents to reach, it’s not worth the investment for a 75% chance to get a combo point. Just put Rogue tank in a crit group with Honor Among Thieves.

Right now, my 42 Beastmaster hunter has a passive 53.5% avoidance with Catlike Reflexes and Improved Aspect of the Monkey. This is without 5/5 Deflection for 5% parry or any other defensive Survival talents.

Compared to my 50 Rogue who has 27% avoidance without the 5% in parry.

Yeah id be fine without cleave, id just like more of a playstyle involving riposte and perhaps ghostly strike

Agree. I really like Riposte and Ghostly.

My guy i never said hunters should not be able to tank, i have no issue with it.

This thread is about rogue tanking in SoD, not the should-be hunter tanking.
