Rogue Tanking Runes

Can we please bake the “Blade Dance Rune” into the tanking chest for Rogues? then change Blade Dance to something else?

Why? What would you replace it with?

Anything except for having to use 2 runes to be able to tank. When the otehr tanks have abilites baked in to theirs. Maybe make it a retaliation on dodges/parrys?

Arent pallys using shield and taunt?

Taunt is baked into their tank rune. You doesn’t have to have shield to tank. It does damage and a daze. I usually 2H tank right now on my pally. The chest rune for Rogue relies on Blade Dance to actually work for the damage reduction to be active.

I think we’re fine.

Pragmatic Advice

  1. You only need Blade Dance for the damage reduction portion of Just a Flesh Wound
  2. Nothing hits hard enough to justify needing the damage reduction portion
  3. Nothing hits hard enough to justify needing the crit immunity of Just a Flesh Wound
  4. Deadly Brew+Envenom can hold threat in current content

That Being Said…

  1. Rogue Tank runes are janky or just outright bad, especially Main Gauche
  2. Blade Dance being our sole source of damage reduction can mean scary starts to every late game fight
  3. Datamined Tank rune, Roll with the Punches, also has the “scary on pull” problem in that you need to dodge/parry a bunch to get it stacked up
  4. Late game we’re likely going to be unstoppable killing machines because avoidance has no DR in Vanilla and we’ll approach or exceed being passively unhittable
  5. Until we hit late game, we might find ourselves prepopping Evasion every pull while we setup CP and finishers so our kit comes to life fully (and that sucks)

Just a flesh wound gives you a hidden 120% bonus threat. I’m going to hit X to doubt that deadly brew + envenom are increasing your dps by 120% or more (I say or more because you have no taunt so you would need a way to burst threat to taunt swap).

You leave a rage mob up and you get a 5 CP blade dance before pulling the boss.

Well consider first that Rogues don’t have problems with single target threat if they have JaFW, so you don’t need the gain in DPS to perfectly match it.

Also consider that: https://vanilla.warcraftlogs.com/reports/FDKJr3xm7t9LgwcV#fight=46&type=damage-done&source=101

Rogues tank fine minus AE… and it will just get better from here

What am I looking at bub?

I think its the number 3 Rogue Tank parse. I don’t like snagging EU parses because funky characters and names and languages. Anyway, that’s a log of him holding Aku’mai without BD or JaFW and dishing out 240 DPS.

His Warrior is doing zero dps.

It’s also conveniently a fight where there’s no tank swap. And we are deep deep deep into farm. The mobs are also not poison immune which many Gnomer mobs will be.

Pretty sure you run the tank stuff week 1 of the next tier if you’re rogue tanking.

My point being that when you go down the list of top parsing Rogues doing a Tank job on any fight, they’re largely avoiding the Tank runes. There are still some really high parses that use the runes as well, but they don’t actually use them, as in they never bother spending CP on BD even once, and just let the passive do the work.

Deadly Brew and Envenom will be far less impactful in Gnomer for the reasons you state, but anything that can be poisoned and doesn’t hit hard enough to threaten anyone is going to see Tanks of all stripes avoiding their defensive choices in favor of offensive choices.

I also don’t think first week runs are necessarily going to be balls to the wall defensive stacking either. Gnomer won’t be hard hitting.

People overgearing content and ditching mitigation for damage even mitigation is no longer required? Gasp. :scream:

lol.

My trash can geared tank rogue did 40% less damage than this guy (I outthreat him though) but I also took much less damage per hit (duh). I think your tank taking less damage and generating more threat at the expense of the tank dealing less damage (a smaller portion of your overall raid dps) is a good trade when working on new content where people will make mistakes and fights will last longer.

You do you though.

I mean my first “tank” experience was woefully undergeared in greens and the content just didn’t hit hard.

Generally, yes, and next phase a Tank Rogue won’t need to give up JaFW to make use of Envenom on applicable bosses. However, people dramatically overvalue Tank mitigation beyond avoiding burst death and dramatically undervalue how effortlessly strong Healers are at the moment.

All it takes is a Kelriss type boss (in the sense of being a potential raid wiper) that crunches the tank for tank DR to be worthwhile.

:man_shrugging:

Like, crowd pummeler could hit hard.

:man_shrugging:

True, Ghamoo-ra is supposed to be that now with his armor shredding ability. We just sorta kill it anyway.

Problem is we haven’t seen (yet) something that absolutely craps on a Tank that has to simply be endured. Kelris can be kicked into meaninglessness in P1, even Aku’mai doesn’t hit hard. Maybe Crowd Pummeler will do a Broodlord style Mortal Strike and delete a Tank?

That’d be fun.
