Rogue Stealth Animation Speed

Hi Classic community. Some of you might recall that the rogue’s stealth animation walk was much slower in 1.12.1 – the stealthed rogue seemed to “glide” along the ground. This made them seem sneaky and haunting, a really cool effect imo. Here is a comparison video:

I noticed that in the Classic beta, rogues still have the “fast” animation, which takes many more steps per meter travelled. What do you guys think? Is it possible Blizzard might give us back the slow stealth? I thought it looked much better, personally.

Additional, original vanilla evidence from World of Roguecraft Episdoe 1 (11m18s): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1t0A1cqGcw&t=11m18s

edit: I also want to note that certain mounts (particularly Orc wolves) had a similar animation-speed change at one point, though I can’t find video examples of it.

Linked a private server video. What you’re saying is meaningless.

How is this for proof then? The original World of Roguecraft video. 11m18s

OP is correct, it’s how it was. You can check original vanilla pvp videos to see. Plenty of showcases in Grim’s Total Annihilation

Your vendetta against private servers is laughable, as they’re the entire reason Classic exists. They may have gotten hidden values wrong in many cases, but they didn’t get a very basic mechanic that is clearly shown in vanilla videos. Rogues have always had the slow walk animation. It wasn’t until post-vanilla (the exact patch escapes me) that we saw it changed… for some reason.

I don’t have a problem with private servers. I ran around on one of them checking out all the gear and stuff. I dislike people talking about them like they are the truth, “this part of classic is not like my private server so it must be wrong”

So… the fact that this is 100% accurate is irrelevant then?

lol okay. are we to expect that private servers didn’t port anything directly in correctly? what’s wrong on them is mostly unknown values–much more rare that they’d have bugs that lead to incorrect animations.

Is it just a function of the current engine being used? Or is it something separate they can adjust?

He can be right. Just don’t use a private server video as proof.

I used that video because it clearly demonstrates the two animations side-by-side (you know, a comparison).

I then linked an original vanilla video as further evidence.

Okay, except he either picked a video or made a video with higher quality footage so it’s far clearer. Stop nitpicking about the source of it when this is well known among rogues. A friend of mine who played a rogue in vanilla’s biggest complaint about Classic was this bug, and this was months ago.

Yeah link the original vanilla video to begin with.

All of your 1.12.1 proof is level 60 rogues with rank 4 Stealth vs. the beta level 16 rogue with rank 1 Stealth as well.

Rank 1 is -50% movement speed. Rank 4 is -30% movement speed. Not to mention either of those rogues could have Camouflage 5/5 for a rank 4 Stealth speed of 85%.

100% yes, this one seriously needs to be looked into. It is a big deal to Undead Rogue fans in particular.

Sadly, I think the newer animation happened around 1.12.x and 2.0. I remember it because I was leveling a baby UD Male Rogue and was disgusted by both the change to the stealth animation and the change to the sound of Gouge. I don’t recall which happened first or if they happened at the same time.

The “Gliding” or “Ice Skating” animation for UD Male Rogues is very well documented. See pretty much any authentic Vanilla video featuring a UD Male Rogue.

I should comment that I believe this changed for several or even all Rogue races male and female. For example, I recall NE Male Rogues having a smoother more stretched out and sort of sneaky looking animation originally, and after the change it looked like they needed to find a toilet ASAP.

You probably should stop posting, now that your nitpick has been dismissed.

Okay? You can make a new character on a private server and check yourself. The slow walk was how it worked until it was changed.

It has nothing to do with rank. Rank (and talents) affects movement speed, not animation speed.

Animations are client-side.
