Rogue stats?

When leveling a rogue in this game, and a blue 1 handed sword drops with str on it, is it acceptable for a rogue to roll need on it? They’re seen as the agility class

I’d say only if no one else needs it, since you only gain 1 AP per point of Strength, it’s not a very big benefit for you

Granted depending on the loot rules you can roll on it anyway regardless

Strength directly impacts attack power. Therefore, if the 1 hander drops and it’s an upgrade for me, I’m telling the group that I’m rolling need on it.

While leveling, especially at low levels, weapon DPS is vastly more important than the weapon stats.

14 AP = 1 DPS. So if there’s a blue sword with, say, +4 Str, that would be 8 AP (0.57 DPS) for a warrior, or 4 AP (0.29 DPS) for a rogue.

That’s not a real meaningful difference, especially not if you’re looking at a significant raw DPS upgrade from the item itself.

100%. Stats don’t matter as much as the pure dps. Slower the better, but good weapons are a rogues best friend leveling.

Nice post thanks

A weapon drops and only has 2 stats:
Weapon damage
Spell caster stats.

The weapon has very high weapon damage (mace from RFK)
and some damage/healing bonuses

Whose weapon is it? It does way more damage than my current weapons.

Roll on items that are better than what you have.

Ok, now this one is bad.

Don’t take caster weapons from casters just because they have a higher DPS than what you have. If the caster doesn’t want it, then absolutely, go for it; but it’s like rolling for your offspec against someone’s main spec. It’s not ninjaing, it’s not quite trolling, but it’s extremely rude.

If there are no other STR based characters in the group that want it, then should be fine… But it’s probably good to ask before you start rolling need on str weapons. Good way to not make friends.

But need/greed isn’t even in retail, which I assume you are referring to, since you are posting on a 120 rogue.

There are cloth items with agi on them. Who are those items for?

If an item has TWO stats.

weapon damage
spell damage

who is the item for?

Don’t be stupid.

if its an upgrade I roll

Casters can use weapon damage too.

I use the mace from RFK as my current one-hander, for example, as a shaman; a paladin could do the same thing. The +shadow is wasted, and I would have given it to a priest if we had one, but we didn’t.

Cloth with agi is an entirely different thing from a weapon that is directly related for a caster and tangential at best for a rogue.

If it is an upgrade, roll on it. 1 str = 1 ap, 1 agi = 2 ap
However, the DPS on a weapon is typically the most important over the stat increases, so take that into account first.

Not sure why this is so difficulty for you.

Hunters mostly dont use melee weapons but for stat sticks, should they pass on items that give them stat upgrades?

Str gives you 1 ap, where as agi gives you 2 ap,

Stats are different on each character, you’ll always get +2 for primary stats and +1 for secondary. Rogues want to stack agi for damage /crit/evasion, but if its an upgrade, then for sure roll

Technically nearly every stat benefits you in some way, for example int makes you learn skills faster. However, some stats are much more beneficial than others. For example, int benefits a mage much more than a rogue.

So I’d only roll need on a BOP item if no one else could use it more. If there’s a str item and a warrior needs it then the rogue should not roll against them. However, the DPS of the item should also be considered. If weapon item has str but is a huge dps boost to the rogue then it’s fair for them to roll need on it.

If an item is an upgrade I’m rolling need, period.

Rogues only get 1 AP from Agility. They’re designed with strong crit and dodge conversions to make sure they get full benefit from their main stat.

How to determine if you should need on a roll.

Role > class > off spec

Since I’m an h pally healer i can wear anything, if im healing and a cloth upgrade drops i am entitled to roll on it if it is an upgrade. Not because i “can” use it, but because its an upgrade for my role. I will however make my decision carefully because it could be a major upgrade for someone else, and if its only minor to me i probably wont roll on it.
Same goes for off spec, if im healing and a sweet plate chest drops with melee stats, i would ask anyother plate wearers if i can roll, if they say no i wont since I’m not in that role.

These are the rules I’ve gone by since vanilla and they’ve worked out for me all these years.

Gonna have to disagree with you on that, unless they changed the rogue stat priority in 1.13 rogues primary stat is agility, and they would benefit way more from it then strength
