Rogue Spec for M+?

I don’t really like tier lists so I’ll take it with a grain of salt but are sub and outlaw pretty comparable in M+ for this expansion? I played mostly Sub when I started my rogue life, and never really got into Outlaw except a few go arounds in S4. I don’t mind shaking things up this time around so I may try outlaw if it is leagues ahead, otherwise I’ll just stick to what I know with Sub

Depending on what you plan on doing, up to 20+ they will be interchangeable.

They have almost the same defense and utility abailable to them thanks to the new trees.
Damage wise sub is very bursty with high highs and low lows.
Outlaw is steady.

So the shorter mobs are alive the better sub will look and vice versa for outlaw.
Higher keys will therefore “favor” outlaw.
But it’s a wash really. And what ever you like better is the correct answer!

From my understanding, outlaw is 8- target cleave machines not reliant on the tank doing big pulls. You are a machine of doing constant great damage every pull.

Sub is build specific for monster aoe/bad single target or monster single target and bad aoe.

I’m considering swapping to outlaw from unh dk for m+ because having to coordinate with the tank to pull huge for my cds is like pulling teeth. When he does, I hit 200k easy as unholy. When he doesn’t it’s like 50-70k dps. Outlaw should maintain 100k on 5-8 targets from what i’ve seen on yt and twitch.

Background: I have been a rogue since vanilla. I played combat and eventually moved to sub with some assassination sprinkled in. I am a gladiator rogue that has achieved glad as assassination and sub with RMP. Slightly different opener. My raider IO has a link to a PVP video I did in patch 5.4.

In Shadowlands (SL), I transitioned to M+ only. I played season 1 as sub. For the first time outside of deploying, I took a long break and came back in SL season 4. I picked up outlaw. At first, I didn’t like it, now I can’t imagine doing mythics with anything else.

I highly recommend, if you are pushing higher keys, you go outlaw. Last night, I started hitting target dummies with the meta spec. I am not a huge fan of the shadowdance play style, however I created a spec that is remarkably easy. When I sim, the meta spec is about 4k DPS more. In real world play, the spec I created is SUPER easy and the damage is almost identical. Once I get to higher keys, I will most likely have to swap over to the meta for the extra damage after a significant amount of practice.

Play the spec you like and are more comfortable playing. All three specs are close enough.

What do you take instead of shadow dance? I don’t love using it.

At what gear level? I’d love to see some dungeon logs if you’re talking about right now, because 100k sustained on 5-8 targets from Outlaw is probably out of the question and I don’t play DK but 200k sustained with 50-70k on a “bad pull” seems exaggerated.

100K was on a yipz video, not myself doing it.

The 200k is doing big pulls on my 370iL dk. It’s just bursting sores damage. Easy to do. I can try to collect some logs if you need them?

I’d definitely like to see the rogue video. I am not familiar with Yipz. I can see spikes that high but not sustaining 100k unless it’s some silly gimmick. I can sustain like 60 on a good pull with no mechanics at 370 ilvl but that’s a good pull.

Is there just that much of a jump from 370-380? I’m assuming he’s at 380 without looking, anyway.

This is where he goes over the build. He looks to be around the low 370 item level mark when looking him up on the armory. 4 days ago when he made the vid, I’m assuming he was a bit lower than that.

Ohhh it’s on the dummies. Nevermind. I thought we were talking about mythic runs. I’ll have to do a run on the dummies and see what I’m doing.

Thanks for the link. Still though, he’s just spiking to 100k. That’s not sustainable.

Edit: Just did it and sat at 75 on a 3.5 min run, spiking around 120 at the start. I’m at 371. If anybody is sustaining 100 I definitely want to know so I can find out what the difference is lol.

Edit: 87k on the second run with one talent change (3.5 minutes again). Maybe it’s more sustainable than I thought on the dummies, but in dungeons no shot people are sitting at 100k.
