I could write an entire book about what is wrong about rogues but I’ll try to summarize…
Basically the problem with rogues is in the bad code the developers have written. Its two part. The first part that “combat” keeps you from stealthing. The second is that combat sometimes never ever breaks. Here are cases I can’t restealth:
1.) No reason at all…I just can’t stealth.
2.) I sap a mob and open a chest…can’t stealth.
3.) A pet aggros…I run 2 million solar systems away and the pet is following and I can’t stealth.
4.) Then there are the ridiculous 1 pt damage and I’m back out of stealth.
5.) DOT run far too long - just increase DOT per tick and let them tick 5 times.
6.) A class now counters our main skill. (makeup call…rogue counter all bubbles - really the same thing, pally, mage, priest - bubble ignored by our crits)
7.) All AOE’s are anti stealth moves.
8.) NPC’s destealth us…
9.) Fire destealths us.
10.) Zoning destealths us.
The solutions are many. What we have now is just about as bad a system as I can think of.
Here are some idea:
1.) Get rid of stealth requirement from all rogue skills.
2.) Make stealth a skill that is not dependent on combat but a resource.
3.) Make restealthing a simple can’t restealth for 5 seconds after last hit (swings and direct casts) …after that you can.
4.) Introduce a “sneak” that can’t be detected but you move really slow. Takes 10 seconds of no hits and you enter this mode.
The last straw was demon hunter. So lets go down the list for stealth to be useful:
1.) No demon hunter present.
2.) No static fields
3.) No random AOE’s
4.) No dots on you.
5.) No humans.
6.) Traps
7.) Pets
8.) Stuck in combat
9.) Has 2 minutes passed so you can get back into stealth via vanish? - cause you know…stuck in combat.
10.) Random aggro from NPC’s even after you vanished and cleared all DOTS…
So really the only real problem with rogue is poor design and poor code.
I mean, some of the skillcap is playing around these complaints. This seems like more of a rage post than a well thought out list of recommended changes.
And shortening dots while increasing their damage would wreck the game.
The most annoying bug, which has been there all expansion, is that your auto attack stays on when entering back into stealth. So when you run up to a guy stealth in pvp , you start hitting them with your daggers (dropping stealth and losing subterfuge).
The only thing that drives me absolutely crazy is the “Still in combat” lag BFA seems to have. Even if I’m not on my rogue and I’m on my monk farming in Kul Tiras or Zul Dazar if I have to get off my mount and ACCIDENTALLY pull something I have to run to the other end of the universe to clear combat. Or I’ll stand in place for 2 minutes waiting for the random mob to stop glitching out so I can get back on my mount and carry on.
It’s even worse on my rogue during Incursions. God forbid I find myself amidst an alliance raid party and I’m just standing there waiting for combat to break so I don’t get stampeded by them…
“stealth so broken it needs a complete reroll” would be a more accurate title for this post.
Stealth definitely has some issues right now, but it certainly doesn’t make the class unplayable, or put the rest of the rogue kit in need of emergency overhaul.
Yeah, and I’d like to add the following,
9.a) attacking mobs takes us out of stealth
9.b) flying 300 yards above ground on our flying mounts and then entering stealth causes us to fall 300 yards and kills us, and takes us out of stealth. Guess this is also a safe fall bug too though
14 years and blizzard still can’t get stealth fixed? Sad…
Sarcasm? These are serious problems that leave us under powered. I should be able to attack a mob or player without them being able to see me. Stealth is meant to make us invincible so people can’t see us.
Sorry but I simply don’t agree with most of that post. Bugs like staying in combat are frustrating and need to be fixed but things like AOEs and hazards taking us out of stealth… You need to play around it.
Did you play in the days of a warrior’s Demoralizing Shout removing combat? (when it had a 10sec cd?) What about when sap un-stealthed you? What about when stealth was a 50% slow? Or when just being stealthed in front of mobs made them attack you?
People keep complaining this game is getting easier then asking for the game to be made easier… C’mon man most of what you said (not the bugs) is part of being a rogue!!
Potentially, but the issue is that it used to automatically turn the auto attack off in all situations. Right now, the bug allows you to walk up to an enemy in stealth, and as soon as you try to cheap shot or sap, your daggers tag the mob and drop stealth and subterfuge. You can be in or out of combat, there is no notification that you will do this. Nearest I can tell, it’s from vanishing while still in combat. But honestly, I haven’t cared enough lately to run further testing.
