No, sorry, it’s a mess. It’s the highest variance spec in the entire game at max level now
Jackal, your guide does not help players that are above level 60. Please keep this in mind.
So instead of gearing the class/spec CORRECTLY, per Blizzard’s intention, we’re just going to lobby them to alter/rework the spec system.
That just sounds like rebellion more than anything else. “Screw you, Blizzard. Change it,” when Blizzard is simply going to ignore it. So if they’re ignoring us, that’s the reason: we’re being insolent over a system they believed was best.
This is the truth: I’d be doing the exact same thing as 70. I CAN PROMISE IT. I can promise that I would never neglect Msty and Vers. Why? Because it’s what I did in SL and not that much changed since. Haste stopped being relevant after BFA and even that was controversial regarding how I had to forego Vers(and I got flamed for that too).
Losing Marked Shots was the biggest nuke that dropped on a Haste dynamic.
Please understand that your stat priorities and item choices will change drastically when you hit 70, as several capstones become available to you. Please make sure that you note that your advice is for level 60 players and that players at max level should not adhere.
The reason MM is currently a slot machine at level 70 is not due to any form of stat increase or reduction. Getting aimed shot recharges and other similar mechanics dictate the very high variance of the spec. This is not present in survival or BM.
Additionally, it is assumed that we are currently playing hunter correctly and hunter is in an OK spot as hunter has received no changes for the 10.1.5 patch dropping today. Please keep this in mind.
Thanks for taking me to Hunter elementary school, but I already graduated from it…
2 charge maximum has been in place since Legion. Do you know why? Because DAMAGE. That’s why. Blizzard has to reduce the UPTIME on AShot without nerfing its damage resolution to the ground. Not to mention Trick Shots, so AShot has to be limited from an AoE perspective.
Look at the 3rd graders in the class all excited about learning this lesson!
Real talk: AShot has its role like RFire and Arcshots have theirs. Arguing for Blizzard to change it is quite silly: it started off as a high Msty/high Haste gig in Legion and steadily weaned off Haste throughout the years. It’s what Blizzard wants to do; I don’t make the rules.
*The problem is that having the wrong attitude will get us nowhere with Blizzard. They will tune out just like they may be doing until now and more on. It must be nothing but high variance/RNG griping to them that obstinately geared the wrong way to exploit a new opportunity unique to 10.1. All Blizz would care to do is point to this toon and say, “Jackalswind gets it, and doesn’t see the issue. L2P or RR.”
Not change, improve. But I am returning you to such a place because I know you are smart enough to understand that changing stat totals does not change the variance of the spec at the moment. That is all.
Otherwise, i don’t believe changing the abilities is what is being implied. I believe that changing the other talents in the tree so that there is less variance is actively what others are advocating for.
However, I cannot put words in their mouths so please allow them to elaborate.
A core aspect of this discussion also relies on understanding that Trueshot and its respective wind arrows pathing which capstones in allowing the hunter to gain Trueshot on an 3% proc rate for x amount of time is partly to blame. Stats will not marginally change this talent pathing and its inherent RNG.
*edit: Apologies, it’s 3% proc chance per wind arrow for 6 seconds of Trueshot.
Probably more to fix hunter wise. And maybe something extra for the hunter pets and said mechanics involved in them.
Programmar wise I think its one of the most complicated classes Blizzard has created. Imo of course.
Always found it funny that the hunter class was doing fine but then took that nose dive with Legion. Drunken cubical crawls and double dares to triple dares I guess.
Indeed. I just eat the sausage already knowing how the sausage is made. I guess it doesn’t bother me after eating it for over six years.
“Well Jackal, you can go back to having Warlock for supper.”
Uh, no thanks, Blizzard. This is fine.
As I’ve said it before, making sacrifices on gearing sucks. I’ve already been through the same flaming years ago. The “Is Vers good for WPvP setting?” threads that might still exist. When I answered that it depended on the spec, that was the “wrong answer” according to my detractors back in 2019. Because if you WPvPed, you have to stack Vers no matter what. But Hunter has a problem being a pure class that had no healing abilities that SCALED with Vers, and without absorbs. This especially applied to SV then. Any hybrid class in a DPS role had access to abilities that healed or absorbed damage by a floating value instead of a percentage.
That was also why Roar was garbo and Mending Bandage: no synergy with the “PvP stat”.
I have a good memory like that. I think my Haste was decent for the time. The GCD improvement alone streamlined the rotation for VoP procs, which again, was on-demand because you could get TShot for EVERYTHING you cast.
So I look at what’s practical. Msty has always been some 2% more damage per 1% of effect. How can you not enjoy it? And that builds off of Agi and along with Vers, gives a Guccier crit damage resolution. MM always enjoyed generous Crit as well, starting off at 15%(?).
A level 60 hunter weighing in on how to gear at end game is by far the biggest joke I’ve seen on hunter forums.
Jackal, if you had mythic raid parses on all bosses above 95 using this stat distribution people would take you seriously. Until then you have untested theories that do not work based off actual data shown on logs.
I know you are only level 60, but please take a look at the BASE hunter tree when you get a chance and tell me what you think should be changed WITHOUT CHANGING THE SPEC TREES FIRST.
Here we go Dennis, bringing [social] class into it again. At least you’re being honest and that goes a longer way with me because you know 100% I’d never get into a Mythic raid. But at the same time, WPvP is dead…
(Mayo) “I got nowhere else to go!”
Having Camo baseline would be a fine start about that. Other than that, I’m not quite sure yet. We’re also not the same kind of TRAPPER we used to be, and that was more of SV’s niche. How about access to new and supercool traps?
I would prefer if they didnt rush Hunters.
They rushed hunters coming out of legion and the post legion pruning ruined MM hunter. MM need an actual big rework not just a shuffle of talents. So does survival imo
Better than that, Blizz can keep ignoring us due to the actions of my detractors. Let the punishment fit the crime, I say. The good MMs and SVs too will work with what’s there. So not only would I not want them to rush Hunters, I’m thinking it’s just a good idea we get ours LAST regardless of the time it takes. And that can easily mean we’ll never see a talent rework before Blizzard decides to scrap our new talent system altogether for something else in 11.X or 12.X.
Both classes need the love.
Its the same issue as hunters, glass cannons in PVP. Lack luster in PVE.
Can’t fix either issues with a full rework.
My guess is the eventual hunter rework involves a full pet rework, which is a pretty major undertaking. It very possible it’s an 11.0 thing, or maybe a 10.3.7. basically next expansion.
And that’s a good deal. The good Hunters will wait, the bad ones will flush out. I wouldn’t even render the good pleasure of guaranteeing 10.3.7 or 11.0 to the bad ones. I’d rather leave them guessing so they can decide to leave the class on their own after they find out the hard way how much Blizzard cares for the others. Before we can gain, we need to get rid of some.
What are you talking about? Good hunter vs bad hunter? You clearly have no idea what is going on with Hunters. Mythic AtSC , the bottom 7 dps consist of all 3 hunter specs. A total of 2 hunters are in the top 100 dps. There are 3 times as many balance druids in the 100 than hunters.
I love the sound of that! *I have more than half a good mind for revenge against my detractors. Nothing would please me more than to see them fail. Because this is exactly the thing I want to happen.
sure because a person who hasnt even touched endgame content should decide it, lets go with that
